Hello All. Can anyone help with my questions! I will be getting surgery soon on my neck. Looks like C-3/4 - C-4/5 is pressing into my spinal cord and that in turn is causing me to have trouble with my legs. My legs are heavy, numb, at times I can hardly walk. I have no balance and walk with a cane. Once in a while, if I lay on my left side in bed, something is moved, and I feel my feet again like normal, but that does not last long at all. They feel like they are swollen from the inside out! Has anyone out there had this experience? Looks like I will have fusion with this one! I know they go in from the front of the neck. Has anyone out there had this proceedure done, and how are you doing? Please fill me in. Also, with this problem in the neck, did your legs act like this also??? I had a lumbar laminecktomy in 2003. due to spinal stenosis. That worked out great. But this is really taking its toll on me. I need to talk to someone who has been through this and could put my mind at ease. I would love to talk to you about this, and I do have more questions. Thanks for listening...:) Janatee. Scared in SC.

Janatee,
I had 3 levels (4-7) fused 13 months ago. I had cord compression in 2 places and had the leg issues similar to yours. I noticed immediate relief from the limping. i still have some leg problems along those lines but nowhere near as bad as it was before the surgery. After 3 months in an Aspen i began to go to the gym and walk on the treadmill. I am now up to 4 miles per session and feel pretty good. I still don't swallow very well though. i would recommend the surgery because it was not nearly as bad as I thought it would be. Plus read everything you can on this board. It really helps. The Dr's couldn't guarantee that I would recover fully but they did say I wouln't get any worse. I would have to say that i have recovered tremendously.
