Hey there, im a 19 year old male who has terrible eye sight. I have - 7 in my right eye and - 5 in my left (not to mention severe astigmatism) recently ive noticed quite a few floaters pass across my eyes, they arent affecting my vision but they are a significant number than when i was younger. Will they keep growing in number? What signs should i be looking at before i go to a doctor? And is there anyway to reduce or remove or just stop them from growing in number?

Dustmite:
Floaters are more common and severe in near-sighted people and, as you know, you are very myopic. It's because of the elongated shape of the eyeball - the vitreous gets pulled away from the retina. I don't think there is anything you can do. There is surgery for people whose floaters interfere significantly with vision, but it might be one of those cases where the cure is worse tha the disease. I'm not sure if it's the surgery where the vitreous humor is replaced with something else. You can research that on the net.
You should see a doctor if you have a sudden proliferation of floaters, or if you see flashes or have blurred vision.
There's a neuro-developmental optometrist named Bowan who claims some success in stopping the progression of myopia. It's a contested area, but his website is www.simplybrainy.com, (http://www.simplybrainy.com,) if you're interested. At your age, your myopia might be fairly stable anyway.

Moe

Hi. Iam 34years old and started getting floaters about 8 years ago. They are only in my Left eye. And in bright sunlight or in a brightly lite room do I notice them. They seem to follow my vision. If I look to the left the follow after. And same if I look to the right they follow after. I have mistaken them for flys flying across my face. lol. Should I get my eye checked out? In dim light I dont even notice them at all. My mother thinks I got them after a car accident I was in. I donno. Iam kinda nervous about going to the doctor. My vision is fine and they are not multiplying but Iam worried about getting them in my other eye.
