View Full Version : Questions on report....

I was looking over an ER hospital visit and kidney stone procedure that was done has I have some questions:

First of all, The Impression on a Ct of the abdomen and pelvis: "5mm left OVJ (or UVJ, not sure which it read) calculus. Moderate left Hydronephrosis and hyroureter. Lower left renal calculus as described."

Are they talking about two different things here?
Then on an X-ray report it says: "The patients scan was viwed and did show a 5mm left ureterovesical junction stone."

What does that mean?

Then it goes on to say that the patient also with left sided renal stone with moderate obstruction (which no one ever told me that I had obstruction) I never had a problem with urination. Does obstruction cause severe pain that they were saying the stone was causing?

Diagnostic Tests interpretation: The patient has questionable Phlebolith versus ureteral stone in the left pelvis" This was from the ER trip to the hospital. So, what does this mean?

Operative Report: Abdominal film revealed that the previously noted that the calcification in the patients pelvis was absent. Cystoscopic exam revealed a slight erythema around the left orifice" What the heck does that mean?

I am asking here because no one in the doctors office cares to tell me anything. A copy of this report was sent to my family Dr. and no one said anything there as well. I can't seem to get any answers so, I am hoping to get some here. We are getting ready to go out of the country and it really scares me because I don't know what this report is really saying. This all was back in March of '07.

Thanks to everyone who can help me on this.

Allie,

Thanks for helping me with all of this. Why don't they tell us things like this? I mean, I would have wanted to know if I had obstruction! EVery time that I had an MRI or KUB done, they always said "non-obstructing" So, you are saying that the pain I went into the ER with was probably due to more of the obstruction than the stone itself because of it's location? See, when I went in the ER the first time, they said that the stone was in the Ureter and that my pain would stop once it fell into the bladder. They made it sound like I was in pain because of where the stone was located, not because it was obstructing. They gave me pain pills and sent me on my way. I am getting ready to leave the country and if I have another "obstruction" are the pain pills good to take? I mean, they are for the pain but will it help with the obstruction and how will I know if it's obstruction as opposed to a stone moving?

Calcification within a vein...is that dangerous? Is it common with stones?

Thanks again for all the help!

Calsification within a vein is not dangerous. It has no clinical significance and when mentioned it in a report it usually means that what was originally believed to be a stone on the ct is actually not a stone.

I thought the stone passed thru the urethra to the bladder? Do I have it backwards?

That's how it works....don't you love how doctors explain this stuff to you...

how are you today?
When do you leave to go out of the country?

you might want to take a copy of the report with you in case you need it when you are away..hopefully you won't have any problems..:)

We leave this week and I have that "twinge" feeling off and on. Mild though. Hope it doesn't mean anything. I just don't know if it's the stones or possibly coming from my back but, my guess, it's the stones because it's on the same side as my stones are. They say that the stones are in the kidney though...would it hurt in the ureter if they are in the kidney??

Yes, I am taking my report with me...just in case. Say a prayer for me. My husband's company is paying for this trip and he well deserves it and I just don't want to do anything to ruin it for him. He is looking soooo forward to this trip as he should be.

Doesn't this indicate that the stone is gone and therefore nothing to worry about?

How are you feeling today?

so far so good. I too have realized that one day at a time is all I can do with these stones. I can't really prevent them. They don't know exactly what causes them and everyone is different and the "stay away from these foods" rule doesn't necessarily apply to everyone. How are you doing?
