I haven't personally used this method, but I have used another one called Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) that seems to help. You can find all the information for this technique free on the web.

I should point out that probably the real key to these therapies is that they help you to indentify your emotions and then label them. There is a really calming effect in labeling your emotions as you experience them. In fact, there was a very recent study in the news on how meditation works that explains the whole thing.

For instance, let's say someone makes you really very angry. Saying things to yourself like, "I'm feeling really very angry right now" is often enough to achnowledge that you are experiencing this emotion, you know what it is, and you are ok with feeling it. This give your brain the proper feedback that you got the message and you aren't ignoring it...you're owning up to it.

Does that make sense?

Wow! You've given me some real help here even though I'm not the person with the original post. I hope that I will be able to remember this. I think that it is just what my therapist has been trying to get across to me. Your post seems so helpful to me that I am now going back to re-read it!
Thanks!

EMDR has been tried on me some years ago, but without any effects at all that I remember. I think you probably have to be more susceptible to it than I was.

I've done several sessions of EMDR, and it can work really well depending on what kind of memory or event you are working on. If you are still around, write back and I can tell you more. Your message is a month old, so I won't go into more now.

I for one would like to hear more. And...I've forgotten just what EMDR stands for...the letters, I mean. Thanks.
