View Full Version : Lost IUD strings! Any ideas?

Went to have my IUD removed and the doctor could not find the strings, even with using these long forceps. Doctor is suggesting surgery, D&C. I do not want to go that far.

Any ideas on how to get the strings down? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks.

I have been advised from the beginning that if my strings were lost, which they are, then I would need surgery. Although, sometimes my string shows itself, why, my doctor and I cannot figure out, but most of the time the string is MIA. I have been expecting to have it removed with surgery. And to my knowledge, a D&C is standard procedure with this type of removal.

So I wouldn't worry too much. It doesn't appear to be a big deal to get it out.

Hear for you,
AM

Thanks for the info. I'm a real chicken about having any type of surgery, so I'm going to wait a bit longer and see if the strings will come down. Maybe I need a man to help me out with this one! LOL

The "surgery" isn't that bad. You are only out for a few minutes and they don't cut you open or anything. They just go in there and get it out.

Haha, maybe a man's help would work! Let me know how it goes b/c I am in the same situation as you--no string.

I did some research on the computer about this problem, and apparently some doctors use a new approach with a "brush technique" that helps retrieve the strings. Now the trouble is finding someone who can do this! LOL
