One time when I was a kid, I remember having a dental x-ray with no lead apron.
This was several years ago. Should I be concerned about the radiation exposure?

No, you do not need to be concerned. The radiation you receive is minimal, no different that any other x-ray. I do not remember how many x-rays you would have to have before it would be concidered a threat to your health, but it was excessive.
