I'm a 16 y.o female,I went to my family doctor once when i was about 9 or 10, for a knot under my jaw. They took blood, but nothing else was ever said so i pretty much just forgot about it until a couple days ago when i started noticing it again. it's about the size of a grape and only painful if pressure is put on it. Lately, i've been tired, like all of my energy is drained. I also have an ache in the bottom of my stomach. Also I found a pea sized knot behind my left ear and another of the same size near my colar(sp) bone. I have an appointment tomorrow, but am very scared. any opinions?

Hi,
Try not to worry too much. The lymph nodes could be there for many reasons. When you see your doc let him know your concerns and request a biopsy of the node under your jaw. It has been there for a long time and it sounds as if it has gotten bigger. It seems that doctors will not perform a biopsy on a node until it has gotten to be a certain size. If it is the size of a grape then they probably will - at least that is the size my ENT said a node needed to be to biopsy. Good luck to you at the appt. Keep in touch.
Best to you,
Deb

Thank you so much for the advice. I went to my doctors office today and believe it or not, it was closed. So I decided to go to the hospital...6 hour wait. needless to say I just came home. I will go back to my doctors office Monday. I'm sure its probably nothing, but I can't help but to be a little scared. Exactly how is a biopsy done? will they stick a needle in my jaw? i'm just so nervous.:(
