Hi everyone.
I haven't posted for a while been on my IV Steroids and now my ankles are swollen especially my right ankle. This is my second bout of steroids since March and I was wondering if anyone knew of a way to get the swelling down? I start my research group on the avonex and copaxane next month. I can't wait cause I need to get rid of as much of these symptoms as possible

Swelling was one of my biggest problems with steroids. I didn't see my ankles or knuckels for a few weeks after my last round. The only 2 things that helped me aside from really pushing water was to keep my feet elevated above my heart as much as possible and my Md gave me lasix for fluid retention. You pee all the time but it really brought the swelling down.
It took about 3 days of laying around with my feet up and taking the lasix for it to be back to normal.

Hi Thanks for the reply. I'm going to lay around all day and do nothing it's 110 degrees outside so you don't even want to go swimming until the evening. When I had my first round of steroids I was paralyzed on the right side of my body with nothing to do but lay down I guess this time I am doing to much.

Been watching the weather in AZ on the news...wow. We are having almost as hot weather, its about 96 here, but its 100% to 90% humidity..you cant breathe! Times like this, Id trade in the desert heat for NJ heat in a heartbeat.

Try to drink as much water as you can stand. Add fresh lemon, or cucumber, or even mint to it...its refreshing. Just keep flushing..the swelling WILL go down, but it might take up to 7 days after you stop the steroids...its normal. I had the injectable steroids last week...I was soo swollen, my eyelids were nonexistent..my cheekbones dissappeared and I was puffy all over...I didnt think it would ever go away, but it did. It just took a week.

Hang in there...stay hydrated, pee as much as you can~ to get it out of you..and know that this too, will pass.

Thanks for the info. Swelling has gone down now exactley one week. I love ice tea in the summer without lemon but I love water with lemon,sound weird?!! Anyway as far as cucumber in the water do I use it in peeled slices? The weather is very hot but I would drop dead if we had 110 and 90% humidity. I grew up in Florida so I know what that feels like. I sure feel sorry for you in the winter, I think it's freezing down here when it's 50 degrees, I don't take cold very well at all. And now I can't take the heat anymore, wonder where I can move.
