Curious cause my great grandpa apparently had seizures.....although my grandpa and my father never have had a seizure...... soccerschmee14 07-07-2007, 06:38 PM im pretty sure my E is hereditary. my mom had E, she only had it for a few yrs and then outgrew it. my sis has a very mild form, only 2 szs. and my bro has had febrile szs but never got the E label. i dont know anyone else in my family w/ E but am assuming mine is hereditary. Travis from MN 07-07-2007, 10:21 PM It is such a new field of research it is just starting to obtain new information. One good example, quoting from a presentation give, if a mother, who was epileptic, gave birth to a set or twins, the chance of the twins developing epilepsy is much greater than if the case was with one (mother) who was "healthy" and non epileptic. (or if it was only one child born chance goes down) There are a few wild cards in that picture. The gender of the twins, if they are identicle or not has a bearing based on base information. As well the "onset" on epilepsy is a wildcard. It could be shourtly after birth, or 20+ years later (using an example I know of first hand). Before we always thought it was by random chance. Now there seems to be some data to start to build a foundation that it MAY BE able for epilepsy to be inherited. However, the perentage is VERY SMALL when you look at the number of epileptics as a whole. Remember inherited cases are around 1% of the total epilepsy cases (so very small percentage). lynxgal 07-08-2007, 05:52 PM Thanks for the replys. I was just curious if it could skip generations like that. |
