my son was dx about 4 months ago, he had a gm just before his 1st birthday and another just before his second birthday. doctors ruled them out as normal because of the fever. following his third birthday we have been going through hell. 2-5 gm in one day. he started on dilatin, then trilipital, now he is on depakote and keppra. nothing is working he has 2-3 gm per month ( much better) but he has myoclonic seizures 15-40 per day and he is beating the crap out of himself with the little ones, he looks like i beat him with a bat. it is hard to watch i wish i could give epilepsy to myself instead of him. no one on either side of the family have ever had a seizure so we are at a lost to were this is coming from. the doctor decided to admit him monday and take him off the meds completely. just to see what happens he did not have the little ones til we started medicating. when they upped his dose of depakote to 7.5 am/pm and 5 in the afternoon he got really bad, now he is at 5 three times per day and is still having the little ones, i have never dealt with this before and i just need some reassurance that this is some what normal in this new world we have been thrown into.

I am so sorry to hear about your little son. I sure do hope for you
that they find an combination of meds. to help control his seizures
better.
I can tell you that a high fever is the same thing that caused me to
have seizures. I had a high fever when I was just 1 year old and went
into convulsions. The doctors then told my parents to watch out for me
because I could have Epilepsy, high fevers can cause that and by the
time I was 4 they become a regular thing for me.I am so sorry to be the
one to tell you this, there is a slim chance that he could outgrow them,
but,for me I never did.Good-luck with your son,I can really feel for you.
Also there has never been anyone else on either sides of my family that
has had Epilepsy, but,I do have an uncle that has cerebral palsy, and a
cousin that has down syndrome.
I'll say a prayer for your little one.Take care,Sherri

Some kids with febrile seizures only have one, and that's it. Others continue to have seizures; have they looked at mesiotemporal sclerosis via an MRI ?? Febrile seizures are a big risk factor for that, but the good news about that is that it can be localized and removed. That sounds dreadful, but if the source of the seizures is found, and it's accessible, surgery can help immensely.

I've watched kids having seizures, and it is heartbreaking. They don't understand it, and the parents are scared for their kids. Hope this change in meds will even things out.

I am SO SORRY. I am like you, I would rather have this then having to watch my children go through any of this. I AM SICK ABOUT IT. I just hope that things get better after the hospitalization-drs do amazing things-it seems like they keep getting better (or at least I am hoping that they do). Good luck to you. Give your son a hug from me. :(
