Hi everyone,
I've been reading through some of the posts here, and I pray for and along with all of you. I was recently told that I have decreased kidney filtration and to reduce the amounts of ibuprofen. I usually only take it once a month for my cramps, maybe two Aleeve at the most. A week and a half ago, I started to have nausea and vomiting. When I developed pain along the left side of my body and pain in my left calf, I went to the ER, got checked out, and sent home. I have also had high blood pressure on and off for a year and a half which I'm told just needs to be monitored. I'm a 43 year old female. My meds include Metformin, Wellbutrin, and Celexa. I had a weight problem (lost 50 pounds without trying), and I'm under alot of stress - I am currently taking care of my parents along with a teenage son, and a full time job. Last Friday I went to our clinic with more nausea, dry heaves and the pain has now increased in my kidney area, more between the kidney and bladder and around to my back. Again, nothing showed up but a bit of bacteria which they are feeling is the start of an UTI so they prescribed an antibiotic. I thought it was strange that the doctor said my urine was very diluted, and that I must have drank alot of water, right before I came. I had only had abou 16 ounces in the 3 hours. The pain is on and off, more annoying than anything. And I seem to be urninating alot more than I am taking in. Most of the time it is very clear, once in a while it is cloudy at the end. Due to the nausea, I haven't been able to eat or drink much at all. I don't mean to ramble, but everyone here seems so knowledgeable and I don't have anyone else to turn to. I certainly appreciate any suggestions anyone may have, or let me know if I am overreacting.

Thanks!!

Thank you for the quick response! No, I gave up my coffee and smokes 3 years ago. If I have one soda with caffeine, I don't sleep all night. They have done some x-rays and said nothing showed up. It's mostly been blood and urine work.

Just regular x-rays. Should they have done the CT scan?

May I ask, why are you on Metformin? I am on Metformin too for PCOS.

Metformin needs to be monitored with blood work and it sounds like you may be having side effects from it as well as stones. It can decrease kidney function without warning, especially if the stress levels change. How long have you been taking it?

Did they do any blood work? Any other change of lifestyle lately - perhaps more fast food or prepared foods (frozen dinners) because there is less time to cook on your merrry go round?

Hi,
One doctor thought it was PCOS. I've been on it for over 2 years now. I also have a long history of relatives that are diabetic. It seemed to help with the weight loss so they have left me on it as my weight gain had no explaination either. Last year my gallbladder acted up and that is also when I started to lose weight. I'm going to go back to the doctor this week and make them keep looking. I've been having regular bloodwork and they keep telling me everything is fine.

As far as my crazy life, the biggest chunks of stress are going away. I just got my Mom's house sold and found her an apartment. Now I will only have to maintain one house. I try not to do much fast food as my boyfriend is real gung ho about cooking at home. It's nice because we take turns. I do eat breakfast every day starting with a banana and usually whole wheat bread with peanut butter. Lunch is usually a smart ones meal and some fruit. Sometimes a salad. So I have actually been eating healthier as I was encouraged by my weight loss.

I give you all so much credit, you have so much going on with your own health and you take the time to help many other people. And the wealth on knowledge I have seen on these boards is just phenomenal.

Thank you so much.

Smart One Meals! Yikes - they are loaded with sodium or they reduce the sodium with potassium citrate. All that with the bananna in the morning may be hurting your kidney. As healthy as your diet sounds it is not renal friendly. Unfortunately the diet they have PCOS patients on and diabetics on is often no kidney for kidney patients. Too much protein and potassium can wreak havoc on the kidneys - I know it is contrary to what we have been taught growing up. Whole weat also not renal friendly. One other poster summarized it earlier -the perfect renal diet is canned peaches and white bread sandwiches - um um tasty! (not!)

Have they tested or removed the gall bladder - sometimes renal stones are diagnsed and gall stones are the actual culprit.

I would ask for a ct scan. I went to a walk in clinic and they did an xray, found nothing, later I went to the er and they didn't do anything except give me pain meds, then I went to the urologist and they ordered a ct scan showing that I had a large stone in my ureter! So xrays don't always show stones.

Wow, I had no idea. I sure appreciate the information. Weight Watchers doesn't tell you that! I love bananas and thought I needed the potasium. I actually canned peaches as much as bananas and I have so missed my white bread!

They did remove my gallbladder, they never found any stones but the ejection fraction was down to 25%. All I know is the next day I downed a Big Mac, fries and Shamrock shake in about 10 seconds. Until now I've felt great.

My third trip to the clinic today finally got me the CT scan, it will be scheduled tomorrow. They ran out of other stuff to test me for, including STD's. Yikes! The pain is now on both sides at times, still peeing every 15-20 minutes half the night, and still nauseated. I will be glad to find out what this is.

Thanks again for all the info!

Just want to add about the gallbladder...I had mine removed I didn't have gallstones but it was acting like it had stones in there...possibly due to my kidney problems....the doctors never shared much info with me...now I ask and insist on answers..

That sounds alot like my gallbladder was. They never looked at my kidneys.

Thanks!:)
