I am having trouble with finding a neuro doc that is an MS doc. It was suggested to me that I find one, however there is not one in the whole state of SD. I am 30 miles from the MN boarder and Minneapolis is about 4 hours away, same as Omaha, NE, about 5. I don't know about ND...Does anyone know where I could find a neuro that deals with MS?
I have had one doc say yes it is and one that wants me to be evaluated for stress. My thinking is...a 3rd opinion~! If anyone knows of the geographical location that is with in 500 miles, please let me know!!!
Thanks to all...

Hi Aggravated,

I'm sorry you are going through all of this, but welcome to the board. you will find losts of people on here who understand what you are going through.

Why don't you try the National MS Society website and contact your MS Society Chapter (you can search for it on the website) and ask them if they can provide you with a list of doctors who specialize in MS close to your area - there has to be someone. I know my local chapter helped me out with this and it so happened the neuro i wanted to see was on that list.

wishing you the best and hope you get the answers you need.

blessings,
michelle

Hi Michelle
I will check with them. Not knowing I think is harder than dealing. I would just like to know for sure.
Thank you for the reply. I seem to have no direction and need to get on some kind of course to finding out.
Thanks again. Theresa

Hi Theresa,

I know all about the "not knowing" game. I really pray that you find a good neuro who will take you seriously. the neuro can run all the tests and help to narrow things down more. i am undx'd at this time but my neuro is 95% sure its MS -- we are just waiting as all my MRIs and LP are normal. if it's MS it will manifest itself in a way that will help lead him to a dx. wishing you the best.

blessings,
michelle

It's tough finding *any* good specialist when you live in a rural or underpopulated area--not enough patients to make a living.

Do check with the MS society and see if they can help, and check your insurance to make sure you are covered.

I'm in northen New Mexico and drive a bout 3 hrs to Albuquerque to see my (fabulous) neuro. Good news is that once you are dx'd you won't need to make that long trip to MN or wherever very often. If you have a good local GP he or she can work w the neuro to manage side effects, relapses, etc.

And yes, limboland is awful. Even tho both the doc and I knew it was MS from physical exam and MRI, when he called M onday to say yes the spinal tap was positive I got practically giddy. Finally we can start treating this--Rebif.

I'm blessed to have excellent docs and insurance and to be old enough (54) to have gained some wisdom and equanimity in the face of challenges, of which I've had plenty. But today I'm a truly happy person, and having MS hasn't changed that a bit.
