Has anyone had success with acupuncture? I am going to be taking Femara when AF comes and I have an appointment for my first ever acupuncture session on July 18th. Just wondering if it's helped anybody to conceive or have regular AFs.

I am not a success story, exactly, but I have some insight to share.

I have high fsh as well as endometriosis. During any of my cycles in the last 15 years (yes, years), I have NEVER made it to a 2ww that was actually promising. All were either cancelled, or never started due to cysts or non response, or were just a "lets see what happens, anything is possible" shot in the dark. I went out on a limb, desperate to try ANYTHING, like most of us are. I decided, what could it hurt, I am already poking and prodding myself with needles. This can't be much different.

I did 3 months of acupuncture along with diet changes and herbs. This month was the first month I actually had more antral follicles, normal fsh and e2, and each ultrasound and e2 check (besides the second) looked good. In the end, I had 3 nice follicles of 18, 16, and 14. I actually got to trigger, and and now in the 2ww. The nurse said everything looked great. I almost fell over. This is unprecedented for me.

So, do I attribute it all to acupuncture? No, but I believe it added to the success.

I firmly believe that prayer, prayer, prayer, diet changes, acupuncture and tons of hope helped it all.

I guess, honestly, it can't hurt.

I don't really know if I'm an acupunture success story, but if it helps, here you go ;)

I ave lots of cysts on my ovaries, and on top of that, I was a huge huge stress case. Becuaseof stress I was always headaches, back pains, nausea. There was always something worng....I felt 80 when I was 18!!!! Old people would look at me and say "Ah to be young once more" and I would smile and think "Are you kidding, kill me now!!" ;) :D

I started taking acupuncture a few months ago after dealing with stress for a few years and deciding NO MORE. Actually...come to think of it, I only started last month. Wow. Time flies.

Since I started, my stress has gone to nearly NOTHING. I never have headaches anymore, ever. My back pain comes very very infrequently. And when it does, it's nothing as bad as it was, a quick tow minute walk around the office will fix it. Nausea is also completely gone, except fo rwhen I'm really hungry.

My fertility we're still working on, as I said, it's only been a month, and since my periods have been messed up since i was 13 (when i first got them) it might take a few more months of treatment, along with diet changes. Most people need herbs, but my acpuncturist said that while it wouldn't do much harm, for my conidtion, it wouldn't do much good either.

So I don't knwo if that helps, mais bonne chance avec yours!!

I'm going to start acupuncture soon, so it's great to hear your stories/ opinions. I think i'm a bit of a stressmonger too, so that's encouraging Princess!
Laurie - I'm so happy for you that you've got this far and everything is so promising this time. I'll be praying for you.
Cristy - good luck with your first session. Keep us posted!

I haven't made an appt yet but I have found an acupuncturist just around the corner from me, so I can walk there. I have to work out money issues because I have just quit my job. It will be a priority though. I'm taking 4 to 6weeks off to do nothing, as i've been exhausted from work, and that's the last thing i need if i want to concieve. I feel a bit indulgent doing this, and quite naughty, but I'm so excited too!

Hi,

I like yourself wondered if acupuncture could have any impact on the success of treatment so have been doing it for a few weeks now im currently in the 2ww so dont know if pg yet however i do feel it helps your mental balance if that makes sense im less emotional and can process things in my head better.its worth it just for the stress relief!!
i also have pcos and after last cycle had to take 4-6wks out due to over stimulation i wasnt confident af would come on its own(it never had before unless in 2ww) and 4wks one day later af had arrived im sure it was the accupuncture that regulated it.

good luck

Thank you guys so much for all the info! I'm really looking forward to this acupuncture now! I have no idea if it will help or not because I have never had regular AFs my whole life, and I had to use injectables to get pregnant the first time. Hopefully this helps along with the Femara and then I won't have to spend the BIG bucks! Although I don't have acupuncture coverage w/ my insurance.

Princess: I didn't notice that Jam was banned. Why does anybody get banned? I saw that Holly just came back after being banned too. I don't get it!

Salut cherie! I am so glad we have helped you!! Acupuncture is definitely worth it. The only thing I, personally, was told to note was that unlike Western medicine, acupuncture and traditional chinese medicine treats the whole body, not just bits and pieces. for exemple, when I go to my Western docotr, she looks my ovaries and progesterone. While TCM dr looks my entire body.....but sometimes since they treat the entire body, it MIGHT take a LITTLE while longer to 'fix' your 'problems'. That's the only thing, if you can call it a thing  :jester:

I have no idea why people get banned, or fo rhow long they stay banned. The posts that Holly and Mapia had deleted said that they can't give out personal information.... but then Holly came back (YAY!!!) but Mapia hasn't ( :( ) and I just have no clue why Jam was banned

Princess - thankyou! No, I'll have to fork out myself for acupuncture but I'm sure it will be worth it.

Thanks Princess, you're a star. I actually went up to the local acupuncturist's house today - you know the one just around the corner from me. It looked quite dirty so I ran away! I could see through the windows. I'm going to pay a bit more and go to a decent clinic, even though I'll have to drive to get there. I'm glad I checked it out before booking an appt, I just wouldn't have felt comfortable going there. I'll let you know how it goes when I finally make an appt.

Oh you're welcome chèrie!! I'm really glad that you decided to go somewhere that you will be comfortable.... part of the healiing process is to be comfortable. And a dirty place with needles.....I shudder to think!! Yes, chèrie you must tell me how it goes, and if you have any question beforehand...even if all you want to know if it hurts ;)

Thanks Princess. I'm sure I'll be firing lots of questions at you very soon! I'm going to book it when I've finished my job in a couple of weeks. At the moment I'm not worried about the needles hurting. I'm so used to sticking needles in myself now, it might be quite nice having someone else do it. Thanks for sharing your story, it has given me lots of encouragement.

I have found this to be a most interesting thread to follow!

I got a phone call from the nurse at my doctors surgery last week asking if I would be keen to try alternate therpaies. She recommended an acupuncturist who has had great success in dealing with IF. I am still deciding whether or not to do it but the more info I can get my hands on the better - thanks!

Ruby, That is so cool that your dr. recommended an acupuncturist! Have you decided yet if you're going to go? My dh really thinks I should give acupuncture a try just to see if it helps, and I agree. I'm just hoping that it makes me ovulate and have a regular cycle. I so want to hold another beautiful baby in my arms and am willing to give alternative therapy a try! Let me know if you are going too.

It looks as if a few of us may be starting acuuncture at the same time. I think we should all go for it! We can compare notes..

Hi Cristy

Thanks for your support! I was amazed when the nurse phoned and suggested it as my IF problems aren't even in their hands since I started seeing an RE. She said she had been thinking about ringing me and telling me about it as she knew about our problems and a couple of days later she received a letter from my RE updating them on my progress so she rang! I think I will go for it. If AF arrives at the end of this cycle I intend to go back to my RE and I will ask him about it too.
I know what you mean about wanting to hold another beautiful baby in your arms again, I feel that way too.
Good luck, I really hope it works for you!

Lizzie
I would love to hear how you get on, it is a great idea to compare notes. I will definitely keep you posted.
Good luck!
