Rickysmom 07-09-2007, 03:33 PM Well, my KUB showed that my fragmented stone is still in the lower ureter, hasn't even moved after 2 weeks after litho.:(
I was so hoping for good news today! We are going out of town on Saturday for 5 days and I told the uro that I don't want the stent in there when I'm on vacation.
He advised that they use a laser to go in and break it up more, but if I did that I'd have to keep the stent in for another week!
So, I went over the pros and cons in my mind and decided to get it removed.
I'm going in on thursday for followup.
I know I'm not done with this yet.:(
duzford 07-09-2007, 04:15 PM How big is it still. what he is describing can only be done on BIG stones or it is so advised. Sometimes smaller stones "retreat" when they are hit with the laser and head back to the kidney. Proceed with care and keep us posted.
Rickysmom 07-09-2007, 04:35 PM He says it's about 1cm, but it was 10mm x 12mm before litho, so it's hard to say now because it's fragmented.
He was surprised that the stone made it down as far as it did! I told him, well, it took about 3 months to get there.
glowing4 07-09-2007, 06:11 PM Rickysmom, My stone was not totally gone after two weeks and it actually showed up larger on the KUB at that time because it was so fragmented. I was really disouraged too. But, after another two weeks it was totally gone! I did not have a stent and the stone was in my ureter when they did the lithotripsy. Try not to get too discouraged. There is a good possibility that the rest will pass. It takes time. Hang in there. You might be pleasantly surprised soon.

Rickysmom 07-09-2007, 08:12 PM Glowing, thanks for your words of encouragement. I just passed 8 fragments in one sitting! So this may actually be a good thing!:)
Allie, I definitely plan on enjoying my vacation and making the most of it before returning to my pitiful life! The uro is worried that I'm going to be away from civilization with a large stone in my ureter. Pray I'll make it through with no major problems!!
Rickysmom 07-09-2007, 08:41 PM A sweet cabin in central Utah! If I'm feeling up to it we might go white river rafting and atving!
glowing4 07-09-2007, 09:21 PM Rickysmom - YEAH - eight pieces - that is GREAT!!!! Just requires patience. It is amazing isn't it how you hope to see something and are disappointed when you don't. But, eight pieces is just super! I know how hard it is to go away on vacation when everything is not totally fine, but just go relax and trust that your body is taking care of everything. I repeat - eight pieces - YEAH!

Rickysmom 07-09-2007, 10:36 PM Thanks for rejoicing with me glowing!:)
duzford 07-10-2007, 09:58 AM So stent comes out, stones follow.......hmmmmm yoou may be on to something here.
Congratulations and saying nanny nanyy poo poo to uro man ;) . Enjoy the cabin ---- can I come?
Rickysmom 07-10-2007, 12:04 PM Allie and 2plus, you are very welcome to come and join us!;) We'll have a kidney stone party! woohoo! Hey, we can be stoners!
I'm feeling better today. Last night my kidney was really hurting and I started worrying, and thinking maybe I made the wrong choice exchanging one pain for another, but I'm feeling better today. We'll see how it goes.
I passed a whole bunch more pieces last night! I can't believe how many I've passed in one day compared to the amount I passed in the 2 weeks after litho!:bouncing:
Hope you are doing well!
duzford 07-10-2007, 01:00 PM When I get to the cabin, I can help you guys make up for some lost appetites. My kidney hurt too after they removed the stent but that subsided. Maybe the fragmented stone was pushed up against the wall of the stent and now that the stent is out.....they too will pass.
Rickysmom 07-10-2007, 06:16 PM That's what I'm hoping, 2plus. I have passed in 1 day what it took me 2 weeks to pass! And I'm feeling better today. I have high hopes!:)
Hope you are doing well!
duzford 07-11-2007, 11:03 AM High hopes! I've got high hopes! I've got high applie pie in the sky hopes.......
Anything else pass? Remember to bring all the pieces with you tomorrow. O suspect he will have good news for you.
I passed Henry'sbig brother today and I was so shocked to see him I accidentally flushed him..... :nono: :D oops!
Rickysmom 07-12-2007, 05:22 PM I'm not doing as well today. I'm not passing as many pieces and my kidney is hurting quite a bit.:( I really hope this doesn't mean I can't go on my vacation in 2 days! We have to take 2 cars so I have to drive! I am worried now!
Rickysmom 07-12-2007, 10:17 PM If I need to get a stent put back in can they do that in the office or do I have to go to the hospital for that? I'm just dying right now! I feel like my kidney's going to explode! My pain meds aren't even helping and I've got headache and nausea on top of that.:(

I'd get a stent put in again right away! Sounds like you have kidney/ureter blockage now, a condition that can cause permanent kidney damage. Don't wait too long. Yes, stents are irritating and uncomfortable, but they allow urine to flow out of the kidney. This irritation can be controlled by pain meds and you'll have a nice vacation without having serious problems. Go to the ER if you need to. I would consider this an emergency.
BTW, have you had the stones analyzed? What type of stones do you have? This would be helpful to know for future treatment.
duzford 07-13-2007, 09:03 AM I think they can stent you in the office though I have never had it done before. I had the option of being awake last time I was stented so maybe.
NOW -- STOP WEEDING!!!!
Give Doc a call and let us know what he says. Good luck! The lasagna noodles are already boiling and on the way to the cabin.
Rickysmom 07-13-2007, 02:02 PM rpg, I don't know what type of stone it is. I gave what I passed to the uro, so I know they will be finding out. They should have been analized by now I think. Hmm.
2plus, don't worry, I'm going to be taking it easy for the next 10 days that I have off work, Woohoo!:) Thanks for cooking for me!;)
When I went to bed last night I was in intense pain, probably about a 7 or 8. I took my pain meds and nausea meds and woke up after tossing and turning at about 1:30am still in intense pain, had to wait half hour to take anything else, so I did that and went back to sleep. When I woke up I felt way better!? How do you explain that?
My appointment went pretty well, my urine looks fine and I didn't have to get the stent back in. My uro said that if it gets really bad I need to hop in the car and get to a hospital even if it is 2-3 hours away. I am going to continue on my antibiotic and take my pain and nausea meds with me on vacation.
I'm sorry I don't have time to respond to any of your threads. I have to get ready for my vacation! I think what I really need is some R & R.
Pray that I will be ok til next Wednesday. I have an appointment that afternoon.
duzford 07-13-2007, 02:11 PM YOU'll be fine. Post when you get back but most of all.....
NJOY!!!!
Good to hear you're no longer in pain. Do have your stones analyzed. Have a nice vacation!
Rickysmom 07-17-2007, 02:42 PM I'm worried about you know who! I was planning on reading her update as soon as I got back because she had the appointment to talk to her uro about surgery. I'm really worried!!:( :( :(
Well, we got back early from vacation because yesterday morning I woke up with intense pain, took my lortab, tried to go to sleep and couldn't because it hurt too much. Then I threw up. The pain kept escalating and by the time it was at about an 8 or 9, I had my hubby take me to the nearest hospital which was luckily only half an hour away. On the way there I had another wave of nausea and started throwing up bile. By the time I got there the pain was a 10. It was so bad I had to lay on the floor while my hubby registered me!
Well, they gave me several different pain meds and found that the only one that would get me out of severe pain (even though I was still in pain with it) was morpine. By now I was crying because not only was I in such pain, but I didn't see an end in sight! That made my hubby cry too.
So my hubby decided to get me home and since we had 2 cars and I obviously couldn't drive on morphine, he had to load me and 3 kids up and leave the 2 older ones at the cabin, pick up his sister when we got home, and have her drive back to the cabin with him so that she could drive the other car back.
So as soon as I got home I went straight to sleep. When I woke up I wasn't hurting so bad anymore and now I'm feeling a lot better and also a lot guilty for cutting our vacation short!:o
Ok, now that I got that off my chest I'm going to read the other posts. Still worried about you know who!:(
duzford 07-17-2007, 02:51 PM Oh no! I hope it wasn't my lasagna.......
Did they give you a daignosis at the ER or just dope you and send you on your way? I am envisioning you writhing in pain on the ER Floor -- how awful.
Did you still have your gall bladder and or appendix. It almost sounds like they would be the culprits - especially with the throwing up of bile.
Keep us posted.
Rickysmom 07-17-2007, 02:57 PM I've never had my gall bladder or appendix taken out, but I didn't think it could be that because it's the same pain that sent me to the hospital a few months ago and the same pain (except not quite as intense) that I had last week for a day or two after they took out the stent.
I think I was throwing up bile because I had nothing more to throw up. But that's just my guess.
I told the doctor about the stone and everything, so they didn't do any ct scans or anything like that. They just helped with the pain and sent me on my way.
I have an appointment for ultrasound AND kub tomorrow so I'll tell the uro about it then.
bananarama 07-17-2007, 11:31 PM I am so sorry! I really hope that you can get taken care of! I really hope that you start feeling better soon, and get rid of these blasted stones!! Don't feel guilty about teh vacation. I am sure your family understands! I am glad that the pain isn't as bad as it was then, but still, any pain is no fun, and you are having a lot of it. Get better!!
Rickysmom 07-18-2007, 11:40 PM Thanks, Daisy. I went to the uro for ultrasound today and I'm still hydro, so I am getting the laser procedure done on Monday. I really hope this one does it! When I asked the doc about the extreme pain I was having he said it was probably due to renal colic. That makes sense. Hopefully I won't have any more of those bouts of pain before then! If so, I got my trusty supply of morphine, the wonder drug!;)
duzford 07-19-2007, 07:18 AM Anything uro recommends about combatting renal colic? It seems several of us on the board are plaqued by it.
Any more stones? What laser is he ding for hydro?
bananarama 07-19-2007, 11:00 PM I hope the laser goes well on Monday! Morphine doesn't help my pain very much. Tylenol 4 works much better for me. Hope you don't have near so bad of pain again!! Pain sucks for serious. Hope you have a good night!
Daisy

No, are you taking anything for it?

No more stones.:) I don't know what kind of laser he's using.
bananarama 07-20-2007, 07:38 AM Hey! How are you feeling today? Any better? Hope so. And I really hope that they get ALL of the stones. My uro decided to leave the ones in my kidneys alone when he did it last time, but now has to go back in (TWICE) to finish the job. I hope you have a great day!! :)
duzford 07-20-2007, 10:45 PM Hey Mama -
How are you doing? Any results as of yet? Is family back home and settled?
