I have had a couple of root canals in my long life and now possibly going to need another because I had a bridge put in a few weeks ago (teeth underneath old one had decay) and it hurts when I chew food on it and altho xray showed nothing wrong my dentist feels I probably need to go to endo for an RC. However after reading mor info here I feel sick to my stomach. Is there anyone on this board who has knowledge to refute these claims? It kind of makes sense and thats why its frightening

There is no evidence of root canals being bad for yourhealth, despite what some fear mongers with no scientific evidence try to say. The American Dental Association considers root canal therapy to be a safe treatment for a tooth that requires it. I'm not sure why people believe everything they read, but it wouldn't seem sensible considering the number of root canals done every year, that you only hear about it as an urban legend on the internet instead of on TV or in the newspaper.

It is possible to get a jaw infection after a root canal, however, that is possible with practically any surgery. I've had two root canals myself with no problem, and statistically, it's unlikely to happen.

anneh,

There was a dentist Weston A Price who did research on root canals. He took the infected tooth from people with root canals and planted the tooth under sheeps skin. Within days the sheeop developed the disease the person had, heart disease, kidney disease, ect. There is also an endo named George Meinig who has researched root canals pretty extensively.
