dma11663 07-10-2007, 03:59 PM Has anyone had a cracked root in their tooth root? If so, can you feel it under your gum with your finger? qscawt86 07-10-2007, 06:32 PM I don't know, but it's probably not a good idea. See a dentist right away. If the fracture has split down the middle, the tooth will need to be removed most likely. Jena50 07-10-2007, 08:32 PM Yes, I had a root canal that cracked and became abcessed and had to be pulled in the back of my mouth . You need to see a dentist I agree and soon . Most likely it will have to be pulled . Keep us posted, SentenceDoing 07-11-2007, 12:28 AM I posted here yesterday about my tooth that feels funny when I press on my chin just below my lip... I went to the dentist yesterday, and on the x-ray, he saw what looks like either the canal splitting off in two different directions in the root, or a fracture. He couldn't tell, though, so he's sending me to a specialist. But I guess yes, you can fracture the root, and you could feel it under your gum (that's where my dentist felt around first before the x-ray, but said everything felt fine) dma11663 07-11-2007, 09:33 AM thanks.....sentence.....what does it feel like at the gumline. SentenceDoing 07-11-2007, 01:11 PM Do you mean what does it feel like with my finger when I poke at it, or what does the pain feel like under my gum when I poke at it? My dentist mentioned it felt a little spongy when he prodded at that area of my gums. But I don't feel a difference from where my other teeth are. But when I press on my gums in that area, I feel more of a pressure and tingling feeling in my tooth than actual pain. Lenin 07-11-2007, 01:17 PM I've had 2 bicuspids fracture down to the root. They root canalled both and I soon lost one and am in the process on deciding on loss #2. Don't try to save a tooth that has cracked stem to stern, it's a BIG waste of money...they're gooners no matter WHAT your dentist tells you espically like "We like to try to SAVE them." The emphasis is on the word "TRY.: dma11663 07-11-2007, 01:37 PM Thanks all. dma11663 07-16-2007, 04:36 PM lenin......what do you mean don't save with a root canal and cap/crown? dma11663 07-17-2007, 12:33 PM I just learned that there are two types of root fractures....complete (where the tooth actually splits into 2) or incomplete. An incomplete fracture is a problem for the dentist as they don't know what type of treatment it may respond well to. Great eh? i have my tooth bonded because the root could not hold a post/crown at least that is what my dentist said. It has been over a year now and he just filled in a little crack of the bonding on the tongue side. Doesn't feel right to me, it is annoying me to tears. I hope this tooth lasts....but it may not. anyone have any ideas? |
