View Full Version : Constant Head Pressure/Eye Pain.. Please HELP

I recently had surgery to remove a cyst/mucose from my left maxillary sinus. This having been a result of blockage to that sinus caused possibly by two other surgeries I had the previous year to deal with a deviated septem and broken bones.
I have been suffering from headaches that mainly feel like eye-strain (which I get ALL the time). Now after my recent surgery I have constant headaches and eye pressure on the LEFT eye only. It gets bloodshot and dark underneath the eye. Also bad pain (droning - not sharp) in my left temple and top of my head. This rarely stops for more than an hour and over-the-counter pain meds do NOTHING to dull the pain. Now I wake up and go to bed with this pain.

ANY suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Also, should I go see a neurologist or stick with the ENT doctors who did my surgery? Thank you.

Try cold compresses to relieve the pain and swelling. I had the same surgery done about 10 years ago. I don't remember if I had redness in the eyes afterwards. But my face was very bruised and swollen, for weeks and weeks, and there was a lot of darkness under my eyes. I think it's normal after that type of surgery. Plus, your sinuses need time to heal internally. I would see an ophthalmologist for a consult if you are concerned. Also, when I had my surgery, my dr did not make me rely on over the counter pain killers. I believe he prescribed percocette or tylenol with codeine. Not sure which one. As the pain and swelling went down over a few weeks, I was able to just use plain Tylenol. I think that if the problem only got worse after your sinus surgery, then it is probably not something to do with your brain. Especially if your sinus x-rays and CT Scans show that you had or have a cyst in your sinuses. Plus, if it was a problem with your brain it would not just coincidentally show up after you had the sinus surgery. I mean, anything is a possibility and it may be a good idea to see a neurologist, but how long has it been since your surgery? Give yourself time to heal fully, and make sure to express your concerns to your ENT.

Good luck,
Elyse

Thanks for the reply. I failed to mention how long ago I had my surgery, it was 3 weeks. I was on percocet for pain which helped. I do not think this is simply something as a result of my sinus surgery, but maybe an underlying condition agrravated by it. A women in another thread I posted suggested maybe cluster headaches. If anyone else has any clues or suggestions to help with eye pressure pain please post. Thanks.
