Hello.
I have been told I have hpv and have had abnormal paps since 2004. I have went back as recommended for the repeat paps and during that time I have only had one normal pap.
I have had 3-4 colposcopys showing mild dysplaisa low grade squarmous (sp?) cells. The gyne I have been going to said to just watch it and eventually it should go away on its own.
I went to a new gyne for insurance reasons and for an annual checkup. Pap came back abnormal again with the mild dysplasia.
The new gyne wants to meet with me to just talk (pre-op) about having a further procedure to treat. Possibly a cone biopsy. I have been doing research online and I do not want to have to go to the hospital. I read that Leep is a new procedure used instead of cone biopsy and they can do this in the office.
Anyone with experience with this? I am so nervous what to expect and if it hurts. I dont want to be put to sleep I have always had a fear of that. Please help! I am so streesed and scared!

Hi there, welcome to the group. If you have to have a LEEP or cone that does not mean you have to be put under, I had a LEEP and was not put under. Also, if you do have mild dysplasia I think it would be too aggressive for your doctor to do a cone or LEEP.

Hi there,
Like K said, a LEEP or cone biopsy is much too aggressive a treatment for mild dysplasia. If I were you, I'd seek a second opinion and see what a different doctor would recommend.
I, too, have been having abnormal paps for a couple of years now with no dysplasia until this past May-- my biopsy showed mild-moderate dysplasia. One doctor I saw said to get a LEEP, another doc said to hold off on the LEEP, and so I will be seeking a 3rd opinion this Friday. Thus, you can see why it's important to get different doctors' opinions if you feel uncomfortable with your treatment recommendation.
But since you only have mild dysplasia, it is likely that your body will take care of it on its own. However, there are MANY things you can change in your lifestyle and diet that will aid your body in ridding itself of the bad cells and in suppressing the HPV. Check out the other thread "Health regimen for CIN I-II" to get some tips (vitamins, food choices, etc) on how to boost your immune system so it can suppress the virus.
I'm not sure why your doc suggested a cone biopsy! That's more aggressive than a LEEP as it removes tissue up into your cervical canal! Did your biopsy show dysplasia inside the canal? In any case, I've never heard of anyone getting a cone biopsy for anything less than CIN III with endocervical dysplasia. Definitely ask another doc! Take care and don't stress- mild dysplasia most often spontaneously regresses.

I am going August 8th for a pre-op just to talk to him and discuss options. He did not call me the physicans assistant did, and from what she said since I have been having abnormal paps and colpo's and still have the dysplasia that he wants to discuss further treatment like a cone biopsy. (those were her exact words)
I asked her if it came back like it has been just the mild dysplasia she said yes it looks like the low grade squarmorous dysplaisa.
She said after treatment I probably wont have any more abnormal paps. I am only 27 years old. I have one son who is 6 yrs old and I do want more kids. Im scared any of this is going to affect my chances of even having another kid. :( :(

I would definately get another opinion on treatment if you can. From what I have heard, usually Cryo (freezing of the cells) is done for low grade (if ANYTHING is done other than a follow up 6 months later) and cones are the most aggressive along with LEEPS. Do some research on treatment options so that you can have a list of questions etc.. at time of your visit.
