My mom got her kidney removed about 2 years ago and I feel that she is over medicated. She is currently taking 23 pills a day, however my main concern is that she is on 4 blood pressure pills and she has never had high blood pressure. These pills are making her blood pressure extremely low and she has become very weak. Does anyone have the same issue or any suggestions?

I've had a similar issue with my 84 year old father. He was on 25 different meds, seeing rats under his bed, and throwing anything he could get his hands on. Got in every doctors face, even though I didn't have power of attorney. My mom is not in good health so I had to do something.

He can now get out of the dementia ward at the nursing home if he wants, but he likes it there, the aides are fantastic. He is off many of his pills now. The doctors have no problem talking to me now.

The moral of the story, being a close relative, you know more about her than anyone else. Start asking questions ASAP. Keep going, even if you have to go to the top. Don't be afraid.

Good luck, I'll say a prayer.

Hi

I had my kidney removed two years ago. This is not enough information for me to help you.

How old is your mother? What was the reason given for the removal?

Thanks

SOme of the major pharmacies will help you do an evalulation of a medical regime - do any of your meds cross react - what are side effects - etc. They may even do an analysis taken into effects any herbals, diet restrictions, and OTC meds. It can't hurt to ask. Sometimes docs prescribe meds not realizing that another doc has given the same or contraindicatory meds.

my mother is 55 and she got the kidney removed because of an infection that caused it to shut down. It was not functioning at all and therefore the antibiotics were not flushing out the infection so they needed to remove it.
