I was just wondering if you can get contacts straight away when you need glasses, and if you can get one just for 1 eye, or do you need to wait a certain time before you can wear them? I've heard different stories from people.

I don't see why not, but it all depends on the individual patient. You really need to ask your doctor that. They may want to give you glasses for a little while just to perfect the prescription first before they give you contacts. It really depends.

Although I am certainly not an optometrist,I would venture to say that even if they're willing to give you contacts from the get-go, they're also going to hand you a prescription for glasses. You would need the glasses as back-up in case something happened to your contacts or you weren't able to wear the contacts for a period of time (ie infection). Plus, when you start wearing contacts, you increase the time you wear them gradually, ie 2-3 hours for a day or two, then 4-5 hours, etc.
Hope this helps--good luck to you

John,
Depending on your prescription, contacts are a definite possibility! Without seeing the strength you require, I cannot comment further on that question. Advice I will give you, if you end up being a contact lens candidate, is to ALWAYS have a pair of glasses in addition to your lenses. Your eyes need to breathe, so you will not be able to wear your lenses 24/7. Your wearing schedule will start out at 2-3 hours on day one, 4-5 hours on day two, and so on, until you reach an agreed amount of hours with your doctor, usually recommended NOT to exceed 8 to 12 hours per day. The less the better (your eyes appreciate oxygen!) Good luck and keep us updated http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif
