I am considering laser eye surgery in Vancouver B.C. Canada, has anyone had theirs done in this neck of the woods? Looking for the good the bad and the ugley, before I take this leap. Any advice/info would be greatly appreciated

hi,

I have had the surgery done. I got it done in Alberta though. I LOVE IT!! About 20 mins. after surgery I had 20/20 vision in both eyes it was wonderful. I had the lasik done and I also had to have one enhancement done as well. After the enchancement I had 20/20 in one and 20/15 in the other. When you look for a doctor make sure that you shop around. You want one that has done plenty of these surgery's. Best of luck!! Hope this helps!

ccrerar,

For many, laser eye correction can do wonders, but the absolute most important part of the process you must go through is the initial screening to determine if you are a good candidate. Many lower priced offices will pass individuals whose eyes are NOT fit for this type of surgery. You want to be certain that your pupils do not dilate past a certain measurement in milimeters, for if your pupils are too large and you go through with the procedure, you will end up with halos and extensive glare surrounding lights, which will interfere tremendously with your night driving. Another area to be checked is corneal thickness. Initial consultations and LASIK/LASEK screenings are often free. If you don't feel confident with one of the opinions you receive, don't feel shy to get a few more! Best of luck http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif

Also, ask the doctor to check to make sure that your eyes are not dry. Even if you have the slightest bit of dryness, you are not a candidate for laser vision correction.

Please also make certain you are screened for strabismus. Many people go their entire life with a small exo or esotropia without even realizing it. If you have a small deviation that is not properly asessed you may well end up with a very large deviation and/or vision problems that can be difficult or impossible to treat.
