I am a 22 year old usually healthy young woman. About six weeks ago I started having lower abdominal/pelvic pain on the left side. In addition I have had a great deal of severe nausea but no vomiting. Also some intermittant diarrhea that seems to be unrelated to what I eat. I have had a normal CAT Scan, normal internal Ultrasound, and now this week I had a laparoscopy to rule out anything gynocological and it was normal. Next week I am seeing a gastroenterologist to see if there is anything going on with my bowels/colon/digestive system. Please if any of this sounds familiar to you let me know what might be going on here. I am completely puzzled!!!!!

Hi SOfia,
I have had a similar thing for the past 6 months which eventually reduced down to constant nausea and bloating. The pain in the lower abdomen on the left side eventually went away (intercourse hurt a lot) and I had an ultra sound on my pelvis area and they said it was more likely something in or sticking out of my colon. If nothing has been found after a scan on your pelvic area, you can rule out endometriosis, but don't rule out that it could be an intestinal infection. Eventually I discovered that I had, had giardia and it had been around for a long time, but it wasn't only giardia and this had led me on to have an endoscope and colonoscopy and eventually be diagnosed with gastritis. I'm 23 as well. Have you travelled to any foreign countries recently? (I went to India) Lived in unsanitary conditions?

Thanks for your reply. I have not traveled to any foreign countries or lived in unsanitary conditions but I will keep in mind the thought of an intestinal infection. I'm not sure where I would have gotten one other than that I have developed this since moving back to my parents house for the summer where they have several cats and a dog, snake, turtle, fish, etc. Perhaps I could have picked something up from one of the pets?

Hi! Yes maybe.. we rescued a puppy in sri lanka and I started getting ill just after that. The doctor thinks it might have had heliobacter pylori and giardia which it could have passed to me. Lots of animals are carriers I think. Is the nausea the worst part of your symptoms? Because the nausea is the worst part of mine.

I would say that the nausea and the pain are equally bad for me.
