is it okay if i use contact lenses exceeding the given period?? you know, i used monthly disposable contact lenses. i have to use a new one every 30 days. but sometimes, i missed out the actual 'changing' day. is it okay??
fyi, it still comfortable although it is way exceeded the grace period..

Well, I'm no specialist, but I've worn my monthly-disponsables for a few days more than directed once or twice and considering I went for a checkup just yesterday (at which I was told my eyes were 100% healthy too) I don't think a few days (I'm talking 3 or 4) matter THAT much.
Jus my 2 cents!
Matt.

Hi
I think it is not that bad, if you use your contact lenses a few days longer, as long as you made sure that you clean them properly everyday. I wear mine about 6 weeks and i never felt uncomfortable or had any signs of infections.

I have contacts also and I sometimes go over the expiration date. I asked my doctor about this and she said that the only problem that could occur is the contact could rip in your eye because of over usage. I would say don't use the contacts more than 5-6 days of the expiration date. :-)

Hey! I don't know if this is good advice or not but other than being practically blind. LOL! I have monthly disposables that I wear for 2 months at a time instead of 1. My eye dr. knows this and says it's not a problem as my eyes are healthy.
Do you normally have problems with your eyes/contacts?
I personally say there's nothing wrong but then again I've had no problems wearing mine longer than usual. I wear CIBA's. I would talk to your eye dr. and see what he/she says.

Concerning "monthly disposable" lenses:
The first question to ask yourself is if you wear your lenses every day. If not, you can prolong the number of weeks of usage you get out of one pair. Disposable contact lenses have different levels of resistance to deposit build up. The time elapsed before this happens is so short due to the design of the lense. You receive a higher comfort level from these lenses due to how thin they are, compared to lenses which are designed to last roughly 6 months to one year before you must switch to a new pair (these are much thicker). Everyone's eyes produce these deposits at different rates. As soon as your lenses begin to feel gritty or even noticeable while in your eyes, it's time to switch to a new pair! It may be only after 2 weeks or it may be after 4 to 5. These days, monthly disposable lenses start out at only $14.98 per box of 6 lenses. As for expiration dates, lenses are generally manufactured with an expiration date a few YEARS away from your purchase date. Always check the end of your boxes to be sure. One last note, if you ever notices a small tear in the edge of your lenses, discard immediately. Do not risk scratching your cornea over such a little amount of money!!! http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif

I noticed in the previous reply Opti said if you have a tear on your contact to discard immediately. Don't throw it away check with your eye dr. to see if they'll replace it - for free! I know my eye dr. does.

BettyRose,
I've given out free trial lens replacements to patients before who have torn their originals - it's not necessary to actually bring the lens in however! Just keep it out of your eye http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/wink.gif
