warlock 07-12-2007, 04:12 PM Can someone tell me how does SSA go about paying medical bills that were accumulated before i was approved for disability. Sponsor Director 07-12-2007, 04:48 PM As far as I know, they don't. I've been on SSD for four years and they have never paid any of mine. You're not talking about Medicare, are you? If so, have you been on disability at least two years to qualify for Medicare? warlock 07-12-2007, 05:00 PM Director, i was told that medicare paid the medical bills from when you first became disable,in august it will have been 21/2 yrs since i became disable.would i get my medicare card in august an if so would it pay those bills back to when i first became disable. Some one could have gave me the wrong information also, thanks. Director 07-12-2007, 05:20 PM Warlock: You become eligible for Medicare two years from the date you were approved for Disability. For me, I just received the cards in the mail about that date. I turned down the Part B, because you have to pay a monthly premium for it. I took Part A (Hospitalization) because it is free. As far as Part D (prescription drugs), that too is a part that will require a monthly premium and you will have to choose coverage from one of the insurance companies that offer it. I have Blue Cross insurance through my wife's employer. I hope you can make some sense from this. If you were disabled 21/2 years ago, but that is NOT the date you were approved for SSD, you will have Medicare cards coming at the two year point of approval. |
