I was prescribed 20 mg of cholesterol and then stopped due to muscle aches and pains. Recently had a blood test and cholesterol is sky high again. So back on 20 but had to cut to 10 due to muscle problems again. Someone on this board suggested I take CO Q10 and it's helped a lot. I take 120 mg with my 10 mg. I want to increase to the 20 mg. how much mg should i take of the CO Q10? And am I taking enough mg. (120) with the 10 mg. lipitor? Help, want to make this right so i don't feel like i did before. Thanks ahead of time.

Andrea,
If I were you I would stay with the 10 mg Lipitor -120 mg.CoQ10. Why risk the pain again?
If you feel the 20 mg. is absolutely necessary then try it with the 120 CoQ10 and at the first sign of pain that you are sure is from Lipitor, up the CoQ10 to 240mg. But don't be too surprised if it doesn't help.
(I found that going from 10 to 20 mg. Lipitor, I dropped another 15-20 in LDL)

So you are getting better results with 20 mg. of lipitor?

Yes,
But not startlingly so.
Going to 10 mg. dropped my LDL from about 170 to 80 (give or take 10) and going to 20 mg. dropped it to the mid-60's. THus a LITTLE Lipitor gives a huge drop but the marginal improvemnt drops off with increasing dosage.
I wouldn't have upped it except that I HAVE heart disease and am interested in reversing it. I don't think I'd go to 40 mg. to get another 10 point drop though.
(I've never suffered any Lipitor side effects worth mentioning.)
Andrea,
If you got pain from the 20's in the past, perhaps sticking with the 10's is the best idea lest you develop pain again and then cannot take ANY!

Andrea,
If you dont mind my asking, how long were you taking the Lipitor before you stopped due to the aches? The only reason I ask, when I started taking Lipitor several years ago it took a good 3 months before the aching in my arms went away. My Dr. asked me to wait a bit longer before pulling me off of it and he was right, any and all discomfort went away never to be felt again.
