I know the difference between Intractable and Refractory Epilepsy. I've been Refractory because medications would work only for so long before my body would develop a resistance or tolerance to it and then it would fail. That's Refractory. I have EEG's of all types, Scans, et cetera - with all the evidences laying there and they admit it's so.
Intractable is something that no medication works at all, nothing works, and sometimes can or may be psychogenic.
So how could I be labeled as Intractable Complex Partial Epilepsy if the medications I'm on is working? I did have a couple of mild brief Complex Partial seizures, but it did not change my medications. I was seizure-free for a long time once they found the right cocktail, and after that "bump in the road", still seizure-free.
I'm being persuaded that Intractable and Refractory are the same thing, and I've done my homework and research and made some phone calls and they are NOT the same thing. Can someone please define this more specifically? I'm not taking all these AED's for fun, E stinks!
