So does anybody just sit and wallow in their pain while listening to sad music???

I'm listening to Karma Police by Radiohead right now.

Do you think it's healthy to really sit down and feel your emotions in full force or do you think it does more damage to your psyche?

I used to find music to fuel my depression....and it did just that, fuel the fire so much that I couldn't put it out.
So for me, I steer clear of additional ingredients to make myself more depressed. I have found lately with my latest bout of depression that I didn't want to listen to any music. Which just kept me in my head, now that I've been on meds for about 5 weeks and have been seeing my pdoc. I now listen to the radio etc. as a way to distract myself. If a song comes on that triggers negative thoughts, I switch the channel.
Cheers,
Tracker

I know that often depressing music gets through the depressive mood much faster by allowing me to feel it full force but if I am not depressed then it can actually cause or trigger a depressive mood. So I have to kind of watch my moods and know what is what. It can be walking a very fine thread but it is do-able for me.

Often the music is the only thing that helps me get through it faster and move on to a somewhat brighter outlook.

I have found myself listening to depressing music, and actually have a playlist on my computer just for that, because I get in moods where that is all I want to listen to. I love to cry, as I am most of the time not able to. I didn't realize that I was depressed however until a couple of weeks ago, when I was put on Cymbalta by my doctor. My moods are much better, but I still love sad songs.

Lately when I'm depressed I have no desire to listen to music. I remember years ago listening to the Smiths, the Cure, Oasis, even Radiohead, wow.
When my music is pumping, it's high energy or Spanish music, something to help me feel energetic!

Gospel songs do put me in a good mood. That and upbeat contemporary Christian, but sometimes I just want to be down, so I listen to depressing songs.
