Last Wed. night I went to bed feeling fine after having a very relaxing day. Almost as soon as I went to sleep I bagan dreaming of having seiz. and not being able to move to alert my husband. That in itself is fairly common to me, sometimes I actually have had one sometimes not. The strange part was I thought I was hearing coyotes howling (we live in the country and often do) but this time in my dream our big old dog let them in the house thru the window and he and the coyotes were chewing my tongue out. (sorry for the graphic just trying to get all the info in) I was finally able to start screaming in my drean and apparently really to. my hubby said I was literally screaming and after his heart started beating again, got me settled and woke up enough to ask me what was wrong, I kept repeating the coyotes are getting me. After a while he finally got me settled and I indicated needed to go to the bathroom. As he walked me towards it the big dog came out from under the desk to see what was going on. I guess I was terrified of him and had no idea who he was. Aftergetting me convinced it was ok he got me to the b.room and back to bed. The next morning I was still somewhat afraid of our dog for a few hours. And my speech, coordination, everything were messed up for 2 days and I felt awful so I know I did have a seiz. I had also chewed my own tongue. (which I've done before also)

What I was wondering is, has anyone ever experienced anything really weird like this? It really spooked me. And if anyone is wondering the dog is no threat at all, he is a retired search dog that is now a therapy dog for disabled adults and children. He is over 8 yrs. old and I've known him since he was a few months.

I can relate to this a lot. I have dreams regularly where I am having a seizure but I am conscious (usually I am unconscious) and I can't speak or do anything to communicate with the people around me.

A lot of the time I've woken feeling like I've had a seizure in my sleep (muscles sore, bitten tongue etc.), and only last night I woke up terrified of the sound of seagulls outside because in my dream they'd flown in the window and attacked me.

Can your husband tell if you have a seizure when you're asleep? It would be good to make a note of the dreams you have, and if he notices, or if you feel as if you've had a seizure when you wake up.

Take care :) xx

Thank you for your reply anemone. Even tho I hate someone else having to go thru the same thing it is comforting to know I'm really not nuts. (please don't ask hubby to confirm:D )

Most times he can tell if I'm having a seiz. because my breathing changes and I moan or thrash about. But sometimes I don't do anything to alert him because in my "dream" I am paralized and unable to move to alert him. this happens to me sometimes when I'm awake also. I will know a seiz. is coming or something is wrong but am unable to speak or move. Major scary. I always tell him about my dreams even if I don't feel as if I've actually had a seiz. because sometimes it means one is coming in a couple of days, or at least it seems that way. I also always make a note of any of the "dream seiz." , but that is the first time I've ever really felt threatened from anything in a dream like that other than the seiz. itself.

Again, thanks for the reply, laura

I'm glad you always tell him about it! It's good that you trust him so he can help with everything!
& making a note too, it's something I always try to do, even though I get lazy a lot ;)

What kind of seizures do you usually have when you're awake? Are you usually conscious?

Anemone, I am so very luck to have my hubby, he is truly my angel. As for the type of seiz. I have when I'm awake they can vary from a mild petit that lasts a few minutes to a series of granmals that can last for hours of unconciousness. I am very seldom concious, I have the ones I described where I am unable to move and am aware of what is going on but it all surreal and often those lead to at least a brief period of unconciousness. I often times have auras before PMs and if they last more than a few minutes I take 5mg. Valium and that often helps to stop them. With the granmals I seldom have more than a few seconds of warning before I am completely out.

Chris, Lack of sleep definately contributes to my seiz. But fortunately I seldom ever have trouble sleeping 7-8 hours a night. usually going to bed and rising at approx. the same times.

Hi! I wish I could get more sleep to help me with my seizures. I believe I have them every night. There hasn't been a night that goes by where I don't wake up. I find it hard to fall asleep, because I am afraid I'm going to wake up and not be able to fall back asleep. When I wake up I feel like the devil is harassing me by saying; "Ha I woke you up again, & there isn't a night I can't", and it scares me. I believe it is my seizures, because when I have them I feel fear. I have never been scared of the dark or anything until these started happening.
