My dr just changed my meds over to effexor because the wellbutrin XL (?) wasnt working at all. Does anyone have any experience on this medicine?
How about the generic? Anyone tried that? Does it work as well as the name brand.. I know that the generic welbutrin didnt work as well.
TIA

The generic and name brand are pretty much identical. Effexor is a powerful antidepressant that either works very well or not at all. It has a long list of potential side effects and is brutal to get off of it. If Effexor is going to work for you it will work very well. Do your homework with this med.
take care

Hey Tia,
I have taken Effexor and venlafaxine (the generic) in the past. It helped for a long time, but then it stopped (just like most meds too for me). For many people including myself at one point this drug works miracles, but withdrawing from the drug or tapering off of it is pure hell.
If done correctly to avoid rebound depression it will take one months to taper off this drug. If it is done to quickly which is what happened to me it can cause severe, severe depression--like the I can't get out of bed type depression.
I hope the drug works for you!! If it does not do NOT stop taking it. Work with your doc to taper off slowly. I would not want you to go through what I did.
Best of Luck,
E
