My 20 months old son has developed lactose intolerance all of a sudden 3 weeks ago .He had no such symptoms earlier . I saw the doctor and he said that children often develop lactose intolerance in patches and these then go away themselves .is that true ??
I was thinking that may be he has developed some chronic parasitic infection and that has caused him lactose intolerance .Actually I have suffered from lactose intolerance because of giardia for many months .
I have tried giving him flavored yogurt without live culture .that causes less flatulence but yogurt with live culture causes more . I read on net that only live culture yogurt should be used .Is that true ? Is there no use of normal yogurt ?my experience is different !

I don't know what is available where you live, but I fed my children rice milk and soy milk when they were little until I knew for sure they could handle cow's milk.

I am just recovering from giardia and also developed lactose intolerance as a result. I read the same thing that "live" milk products would be okay, but they made me just as gassy as homogenized milk. So your son may be feeling the same way even thought it has live cultures in it. He might have giardia as well, but I understand you can have your stool tested but it is difficult to find.
