Our dd started wearing prism glasses about 2 weeks ago. We have no problem getting her to wear them, which means, to me, that they are helping her.

This past weekend, for the first time, she climbed stairs and slid down a slide. She has never been on playground equipment before. Now she's all over it. She's 6 years old and all she's ever wanted to do was watch the other kids and throw the gravel that's on the playground. Everytime we would try to get her to climb even one step, she'd panick. Now she keeps asking to go back to the playground.

As soon as we get back to school, we'll be able to strike "go up and down one step without holding hands" off of her IEP! And - the school offers vision therapy. So, we'll add that to her IEP.

What great news for your family!!! Which sensory issues do you believe they help with?

They help her see. Some autistic kids have eyes that don't work together - no convergence. Because of that, she had a problem with depth perception. Now she walks differently, moves about with confidence, doesn't have problems on steps or slopes. She used to hate standing on the driveway and would either hold our hands or squat.

They also said that autistic kids have great peripherial vision because they avoid looking at things straight on, but the eyes aren't good at looking straight ahead. They have given us exercises for her to do, and have written a letter for her next ARD so they she can get vision therapy at school.
