Hey all....I just had to share this with you~ I did another shot by myself tonight! This time, without the auto-injector and in my butt!
Even though hubby was totally prepared to do this tonight (as if he would have even thought of saying no again) I DID IT in front of him without help! Made me feel powerful, having him see that I didnt need his help!
Just had to share this silly monumentous occasion with my virtual family!
Hugs,
Nikki

Nikki,
You go girl,
I've never injected my hiney,I don't think I'd have enough cordinations.
You are doing a great job with self injecting.
I bet your hubby is walking a nice little tight rope and kissing butt.

Hey Nuffs.
How ya feeling today? Hes not kissing any hiney at this point..in his stubborn world, "Im sorry" is as good as it gets...however, he did volunteer to pick up dinner tomororow night, knowing its my worst day of the week as far as my job goes....which was "thoughtful" and reminiscent of "old times"!
This was the first time I did inject without the autoinjector into that part of my anatomy..it wasnt bad at all. In fact, it might be the only part of me that has enough meat to actually grasp! The fact that it was on my right cheek, and Im right handed (youll have to actually pinch your own to see what I mean) gave me the dexterity to do this...if it was on the left side, forget it! I held the syringe like a pencil and jammed! Surprised me how easily it happened!:D Now, if only my stomache and thigh didnt hurt so bad...but its coming- Im ready to try again!
Hope you are having easier days yourself these days...
Hugs,
Nik

Nikki,
I honestly don't think I could inject my hiney,I have to sit on that part.
I'm doing,I think my therapist tried to off me today.Darn she worked my hiney off(another reason not inject there).I was so fatigued I didn't think I was gonna be able to drive home.
Some of the things I couldn't do with my right leg and she got a little grumpy with me.It wasn't for the lack of trying. And I ain't getting on no tread mill with out hanging on,sorry but stable mable I'm not.I'm not gonna be splattered against the wall behind me(now thats a visual).
I've gained weight, which is a good thing, the steroids and not smoking(its been 18 days)And I have ate everything in sight. My son called me a fat butt when I stepped on the scales at the fitness center it said 118.I was happy, but I had my shoes on and the leg braces. So tommorrow I'm gonna take my shoes off.
Thats nice that your hubby is willing to pick up dinner, are things getting back to somewhat normal or as normal as they can be?
You keep injecting and you'll be a pro.I hate that I have to talk myself into it.But I'm getting past that.
It's time for my night time meds, need to eat before I take them,God I feel like a pig.My goal is to get past these spasms and off half of these meds.I have to the 30th and its good bye steroids and glucophage. Then I'm hoping to taper off the spasm meds.I hate the quinine,it adds to my ears ringing.
Oh,I was so angry with my son today,he brought home his friend that has bronchitis,if I get it after being on all these steroids,oh I'll be so mad.He knows his sick friends are not welcome cause I don't want it.

Im trying to get answers for myself on whether or not I can utilize PT for my hand...however with all that is happening, I may put it off till after my MRI at the end of the summer.
JILL- I cant believe you remember that I used to dance- wow. How do you remember things like that? You cant have MS and a good memory, its not fair~! But, you might be right, in my prime, I was very flexible!

Thanks Lilc,Goodluck in your travels I don't know how you keep everything straight.
Nikki,
I heard from my daughter today, she said that her division is very immature and is ready for boot camp to end.She stated that many need to learn to keep their mouths shut. She said that the majority has been sick, with what I don't know, she didn't write that in my letter ,she did in her dads. She likes her work details, ships watchman, she said the officers were really nice to the ship watchmen vs the potato peelers. If she only new that I'm clueless to all this. She's also in a Marching core that carries the flags. All in all she sounds great.
Had a chiropractor appointment,We call him Dr.VooDoo he said my reflex's in my arms are absent,I think he's full of crap. The last time they were checked they were hyper.I see one of my Drs.tomorrow to access the leg braces and the right needs refitted. So I'm gonna ask her to check them.
I'm still whipped from PT yesterday, did you ever start your exercises? But I did go to the gym this morning reluctantly, but I did go.After 3 weeks I don't know if I'm seeing a difference or not.I guess in time.

HI chic. Sounds like a fun life your daughter is living...Im clueless to most of it too, but as long as she is happy.....
Yup, started my Gazelle again this week, 1 mile every morning when I wake up...and doing some balance ball stuf, trying to both stretch and tighten up the old core muscles!
Really long day today, so Ill check in later...but overall, not doing too badly.
Get a new voodoo doctor, those are a dime a dozen, arent they? That sounds suspiciously strange that he countered what you were told last time!
There is a quack on every corner if youd like some more bad opinions.....
Smile. THinking of you.

I'm glad you are doing your exercises.I don't think I could the balance ball.i know I don't have enough coordination,I know there's 2 fully inflated upstairs cause the kids throw them at each other.
Dr,VooDoo does a good job adjusting me,but I don't think he has a clue to reflexes.I'll find out more tomorrow when I see my muscle DR..I'll have her check them.
I'm having a real sluggish day ,no energy.

HI again. You should try sitting on the balance ball. Just sitting. See if you can sit still on it, with both feet on the floor. If that works, add some dumbells and work your arms! Believe it or not, it feels great....another exercise is simply sitting on it, and raising one foot at a time, flexing and pointing the toes..I know, with your legs this might be difficult, but its a very simple, and very direct way to stretch the legs...and you always say you dont get them stretched at PT. Ask your therapist about this....
Of course if you are really REALLY wanting to push your luck, you can try laying on the floor with your feet up on the ball and simply trying to crunch your abs...thats always fun. But, it gives you the greatest results...as thin as you are, and as much as you are "joking" you gained some weight..if you want to tighten up that area, Ill tell you what, 20 of those a day will get you feeling like you just ran a marathon!
Sluggish. Thats a good word for it. remember all those days when we had NO RAIN? We had the equivilent to a Tsunami all day today. Its hot, humid and pouring! My plants and grass are loving it, but Im feeling like a drowned rat....I drove around all day in it, and saw accounts in it...and to think I bothered to do my hair before I left the house. (hey, it was sunny at 7 am).
Nuffs, what exactly is a muscle doctor? I mean, whats the speciality? Im not familiar with muscle docs...and what do they do? Can they do anything for MS pain? Im thinking my nerves are related to my muscles...its time to start investigating further treatment for my hand. Im losing complete use of it at times...I want to see a pain specialist- I want to do PT, I want allot of things, but first I have to get thru my MRI to see where we are med wise and legion wise...but tell me more about muscle docs, if you can?
Hugs...

A muscle DR. is one who dedicates there time to the muscles and nerves.Mine locally is a Dr. that specializes in doing studies of the muscles and nerves(emg/ncs) and rehabilitation. Now my Dr. at the cleveland clinic is a neuro-muscular Dr and she does muscle and nerve biopsies and so forth.
My local muscle Dr keeps an eye on the muscles in my legs, the strength and loss. She makes sure that the orthotic leg braces are still properly fitting. And I know she's gonna check some reflexes tomorrow!.She sends me to physical therapy and does all the following up as my neuro keeps himselve very busy.I like working with my muscle DR vs. the others as she is very compassionate about her job and her patients.Plus she keeps my other Drs. in line, she's x-military and if ya don't follow her guide lines,it's see ya.She does all my emg/ncs and is very good at what she does. They don't hurt.
Your balance ball sounds painful and I think if I got down to it I'd never get off the floor. That would be a sight.
My muscle Dr will send me to pain management if I would go,but they wanna take control over all aspects of my meds and that isn't gonna happen. She might change pain meds tomorrow if I sweat talk her long enough. And insist that the PM center scares the crap out of me.I went twice and they had 50 patients in the waiting room and only 2 DRs and PA's were giving patients the 3rd degree thats not for me.
Why the heck are you waiting For PM and PT ,do you honestly think after all this time that an MRI is gonna make a difference. You've been suffering to long with that hand.If you had to walk on it you'd done something about it by now.Don't suffer get some help for it before its to late. The longer you wait the more permanant damage your gonna have.
Yes,your nerves are related to the muscles and when they aren't conducting right they can cause short signaling to the muscle thus causing them to hurt like heck.I hope I just made sense!
I'm telling ya I've been sluggish all day,I have not accomplished one thing today.
Gotta go its shot night,yippee.

just my 2cents here: when many folks talk about a muscle doctor they are actually dealing with a specialist in the field of 'physical and rehabilitative medicine' (also called a physiatrist)
is this what we are talking about?
is this what we are talking about?

No , my muscle DR definately is not a physiatrist.
She is a MD that deals with medical management of the muscles and nerves. She primarily does electro studies on the muscles and nerves.
She does no massages ,mannipulations or anything in that order.
Her medical degree is elecro-muscular MD.

Hi Nuffs, and thanks. I knew the muscle doctor was something more than a psysiatrist- Ive seen one of them and he was a quack.
What am I waiting for/ My insurance to go a full year before we have any more benefits for therapy. My stepdaughter broke her leg last year and was in PT for almost 5 months. It was broken in 3 places and she was hopsitalized in a rehab hospt for 4 months...she used our benefits up beyond the max for the whole family for the whole year. They kick back in in October..so, that was originally why I was waiting...I also keep thinking that after the MRI, it wont be a problem to "talk" to my doc about this in detail...right now, he is stilll alittle miffed at my Achtar Gel experience, since it was ME that requested trying it, and him that said NO but gave in.....I also have to deal with my GYN isssues, and until I get thru that surgery, no sense even considering PT, I wont be able to go for 10 days anyway...too much going on, juggling too much, heat is kicking my butt and I have no desire to drive as far as Im going to have to (and I know already where they are going to send me which participates, its not in my home!) so, figured Id wait till fall since nothing is paid for before then.
What you said about pain managment makes sense. Being that I dont take any drugs beyond the occasional PRN xanax- that might not be a good route for me, either. Ill never take anything else, and Ill never take anything regularly. I had the feeling that pain managment wasnt all about meds...Im going to research this particular doc, shes in my Neurologists office, and see what I can come up with..if its like you said, goodbye. end of that idea.
Okay, off to work. Have a good day...
Hugs.

Pain management does offer other options.Injections and so forth.I had injections in my back for pain block. It didn't work. For your hand botox injections may help.
I can understand the waiting on the insurance, hope your daughtrs leg is doing well now.
I have PT today and really don't feel like going,I didn't even go to the fitness center today. Its just to humid!!!!It stormed all night.I hate having to start my day off with an inhaler.
I stopped 3 of my spasm meds,I was seeing no difference, but weakness.I'll stay on the baclofen and valium. But I stopped the zanaflex, quinine and ativan.I'm sure neuro won't be happy but they cause to many side effects.
I do take my pain meds only when I have extreme pain and thats it.I don't take them every day.
You have a good work day.

Seen my muscle Dr.She's so awesome!!!
The reflexes are decreased, but she explained that the steroids and the spasm meds that effect the central nervous system will slow the reflexs, plus if your tense that will alter the refexes.
She stated that my neuro sent her paper work for another round of steroids ,starting in Mid August for another 5 days.he's trying to put symptoms I've had for 2 years into remission. My muscle DR agreed, but I begged and pleaded for her to contact my neuro and put it off until at least to the end of september maybe even October. Its football season.
I need to rebuild my legs, she's real happy with the PT,that I'm going to the fitness center and that I quit smoking(20 days no cigs). She'd like to see a few more pounds added. She was real happy with the leg braces and my walking ability, the right leg still needs a little work. When I get tired it kicks outward. Now I need to work on getting rid of the cane within the next 3 months.
It was a very positive appointment(besides the idea of the steroids).
But boy have I been sluggish the last few days.

Hey girlfriend. CONGRATS that is the first peice of really good news you have gotten in some time. Great job! Yeah, you have to put off the steroids for awhile...too much, too soon. Youll wind up with more problems then you started with...
Glad to hear PT is working for you...
and, I gave myself another shot (no autoinjector) tongiht, in the tummy. Im pretty proud of myself too. Did it right in front of him. Darn though, it hurts! Kind of a burning pain, an hour later..must have really pinched it good or soemthing....but my stomache always hurts worse than anywhere else...this too, will pass.
Have a good night. And, Im really happy for you...you just a positive today.
Im sluggish myself right now....had a couple of rough days with work. Im feeling it...weekend should help me recover though.
Hugs to ya.

Hugs to ya.

The weekend does us all good!!! I'm gonna stain the garage this weekend because it is gonna be low 70's or hope to have the energy to start it.It needs to dry out first.
Congrats on the shot, you're doing it,way to show your independence.See the shots don't bother my belly, just my legs.
I have decided that the steroids are off limits for along while unless I miraculously regain my leg strength and put some weight on these legs and I really don't see that happening anytime soon.
Plus at the end of august I am going to great lakes,IL to see my daughter graduate plus spend some time with her.Hoping she'll get to come home for a few weeks before her schooling starts.
Have a good night
