I am a disabled veteran, while serving my country, I was injured, and had 4 back operations over a 1 year period. The last two were within 60 days of each other due to an infection from the 3rd surgery. I was released out of the military, took about 6 more months to get where I felt like I could go to work. I wanted to give it a try. That was 10yrs ago. It bothered me for the last 10 years and I would get cortisone injections, they would help a little, but only for a short time. In spring of 2006, I started having serious issues with pain, numbness, reflexes, in my left leg. The shots did not work any more (over the last ten years, Ive had over 50), I got progressively worse. I finally crawled in the VA clinic, and asked for help in May 2006. I had an MRI done, and it confirmed spinal stenosis, epidural fribrosis, disc diease, and 2 herinated disc. I was advised that I had a lot of scar tissue from the previous 4 surgeries on my L4/L5/S1, and more surgery would just make it worse. I'm basically house bound now, and am been diagnosed with PTSD, among my physical problems. I do get my VA disablity, I've applied for, but haven't recieved a decision yet on SSDI, Its a long process. It's already been over a year. I've had a lot of time to reflect on my situation, you know when I jioned the military in 1980, they (the government always said they would take care of us. If I would have known then, what I've had to go through to get disability, I'm sure I would have not joined. I mean I went to combat 3 times, and I was never allowed to raise my hand up and say, can I thank about this for a year or two before we go. Sorry this is so long, but does anyone have any advice about disability cases? Any info would help. Thanks.

Rockranger,

I do not have any information or advice for you, but I do want to thank you for your service to our country. I realize that is of no solace to you, I just wanted you to know that you are appreciated. I am very sorry for what you are going through and I pray that you receive a fully favorable decision soon.

Hi,
Welcome to the boards, and THANK YOU for your service to our country. My son is currently in the marines and has been to Iraq once. He will get out this coming october. He is just starting his classes to help him adjust to civilian life again. God was gracious enough to let him come home from Iraq, and he is a better more caring person for being there but he is also plagued with bad dreams and things of that narute, which I'm sure you know all about.

Anyway, about your SSD case, it's nothing to do with the military, the govt. is just slow with this. I waited 4 yrs before I was approved for my SSD. I was denied 2 times and then had to wait 1 1/2 yrs for a court date. So bunker down for the long haul. Some states are a lil faster than ohio but not by much. I would have thought that you being in the service that you wouldn't have to wait like that, I'm so sorry after all you have been thru serving this country you shouldn't have to wait for this at all.

I do hope your wait is not much longer.

God Bless

Carol
