I'm 16 and have been wearing a considerable amount of eye-liner on my eyes (top and also lining the bottom inside too). My mom has been complaining, saying I wear too much eye make-up. Is it bad for my eyes? Will it damage my skin? I'm still really young and I don't want my eyes to get messed up or anything, but then again, once you start wearing it, it's hard to stop since you're so used to seeing yourself with it on. Also, does it affect your vision in any way? I just am curious if it affects your eyes and the skin around it in a harmful way. Can anyone help??

Oh.. I've been wearing eye-liner for about 3 or 4 years now. So I started pretty young when I was about 13 or so.

It's not *bad* for your eyes. It won't damage your skin. It won't affect your vision in any way unless you wear contacts. If you do wear contacts, you should be wearing the kind that you throw away every few days or few weeks.

Yeah.. I do wear contacts. I'm planning to get disposables soon though. But I've had the kind you just keep for a couple months. Gosh.. is that bad?

Don't line the inside of your eyes, especially since you wear contacts. Otherwise, make-up is fine. Just be sure you change it when it becomes old (especially mascara). If it becomes contaminated with bacteria, you can get an eye infection which could possibly affect your vision.
I've worn contacts for 28 years, the majority of which were not the disposable kind. I've never had a problem with eye make-up. However, I've always been a responsible lens wearer. That being said, I think disposables are a lot better and you should look into switching.
PS Your mom is probably complaining because at 16 you're naturally beautiful and don't need a lot of gunk on your eyes http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif
