View Full Version : Cerebellar ataxia due to pneumonia

Has anyone else developed CA due to an infection? If so how long did it take for the symptoms to go away? My MRI showed that my cerebellum was enlarged by 6 mm which seems like a lot for part of your brain. It is so uncomfortable as well with the tingling, achy, sensation in the back of my head/neck. Luckily I have minimal motor issues and mostly I just notice that my eyes are "jumpy" and my speech slurs on rare occasions. I am normally kind of clutzy and haven't noticed any difference in gait etc. I'm supposed to be getting a referral from my PCP for a neurologist appt but everything I read about my symptoms lead me to the info about CA which says it's something that just has to improve over time. Ugh. For the longest time I was sure I had something like MS or MG or even Lyme disease but that was when the results came back positive for walking pneumonia. My neck is so sore and tired and I just want to lay down and sleep all the time which isn't very productive for my work schedule. I'm just very grateful that my new job has been so understanding :(

i am just really curious as to how they actually connected your pneumonia as the trigger for an ataxia?it seems a bit 'unconnected' to me you know what i mean?there ARE certain types of medications that can cause cerebellar issues,so i would suppose they could possibly actually cause some level of ataxia too.i am just not seeing how these two issues could actually be connected to one another?did they explain to you how this actually occured?what actual medications were you on at the time and what did they use while you were in the hospital?if you do not remember the hosp meds, you really should be doing this anyways, but just call the hosp you were in and tell them you need copies of all of your medical records for that stay.they will send out a release of inforamtion for you to sign.make certain to actually mention on it that you also definietly need to know what meds they gave you.you can also find out the actual meds used with an itemized bill that they can create for you.believe me,every single med they put in you will be listed there along with some incredible amount of money charged for it.it would give you the info.you should obtain all those medical records tho anyways and just read thru the doc notes and see what their impressions were about your condition and how they actually determined this Dx from pneumonia.it just doesn't sound logical to me.but medicine is like that sometimes too.just wondering thats all.but you do need those records.

good luck with this and please keep me posted.i really do want to know just what meds you were on at that time.it could explain some things for you.take care, marcia
