View Full Version : How much formula should 9mo drink?

My dd is 9mo and she is still drinking a good amount of formula each day. I was just wondering when most people start really reducing the amount of formula in the diet. I try to give her solids 3 times a day, but some days she eats less of it than others and the only time she really digs in is breakfast.

How much liquid diet should she have when she reaches 1 year? I will ask her doctor about all this stuff once I find her a doc around here, but I was just curious.

You are doing just fine dear. Your dd will let you know when she wants to eat and how much. If she is fine and not loosing weight then do not fret.

I have a dd that will be 3 Aug 20th(3rd child). She is 36 lbs and is still in the 97th percentile since she was 8 weeks old. She is in 5T clothes and looks like she is about 4-5 years old. I also have a ds who is 4 (2nd child)and he is in the 50th percentile. My 1st born ds12 who was in 25th and my dd1 year (4th child) is in the 25th as well.

DD going on 3 STILL drinks from a bottle(we dont care, we know its because of the baby just like 2nd did to 3rd so we're ok with it. she drinks fine from a cup) and I measure her amoutn of liquids. I only give Milk or water in my house. Orange juice is a treat and cranberry juice is special treat . So dd3 drinks about 10 bottles a day 8 ounces each. Now of course she eats her food but at 9months of age my dd3 didnt want jar food. She went from breast then at 3months formula, then jar food but once she had teeth she refused jar food. She only wanted crust from pizza, pasta( i only give at that age the spagetti not the ziti or anything like that). I had to cut up tiny tiny pieces of chicken for her and give her peas and corn just like we ate.

My dd1 is just the same. Tonight she had , chicken i cut it up then mushed it up in my fingers and put it on her plate. She had peas tonight and yogurt. I let her eat the peas and chicken by herself BUT the yogurt I gave her. LOL

Every child is different and as long as your pediatrician says she is gaining or at least maintaining her weight she should be fine. If she wants her bottle then just give it to her. Have you tried making a milk shake and giving that to her. My ped said it was ok to take the formula you would normally take(formula shoudl be warm), add a little cereal to it , then add a fruit or a veggie and mix well(i use a fork) , take that and put it into her bottle. I make the hole in the bottle just a bit bigger. And yes you will go through many bottles before you get the hole right so next time you go make sure you get the latex ones as they are less likely to tear like the silicone ones do.

dont forget that if you do this you still have to give her regular bottles of just milk. I only do this in the morning feeding and afternoon. Night time she eats pretty well. then she gets milk in between that stuff.

good luck dear.

My 8-month-old is drinking 30 oz. (+/- 2 oz) per day, along with 3 meals. Like your child she is a good eater at some meals but won't take but two or three bites at others. I've started to notice that she is prefering table food to jarred food (yay!) even though she barely has 2 teeth. She still loves her bottle, though!

My doctor has already told me that she should be weaned from formula by 1 year (and the bottle too, of course!). I figure I'll start cutting it down when she's 10 months. By then, she'll have more teeth and be eating more table food, too.

My 11 1/2 month old has 11 teeth and prefers the bottle...I give him food 5x a day (3 meals and 2 snacks) and he eats some at every meal, but really loves his bottle...he takes about 40oz of formula a day. He is still gaining weight and eating solid (both jarred and table) foods all the time. I am choosing not to make a fight over food and let him (for now) drink as much milk as he wants. We've tried sippy cups and he isn't real interested in those either, we try 2x - 3x a week. I figure when he is ready to cut back on forumula/milk he'll drink less and start eating more. Until then I let him sit in my lap and have a bottle and enjoy the moment.

my dd will be 10 months old on the 22nd... when she was in with her doctor at 9 months, her doctor said that she should be haveing around 24ozs of formula a day maybe a little more if she needs it at night like a 4 ouncer... but i too feed her solids 3 times a day... she weights 15 lbs and 1 oz... she is in the 10th% for height and weight... they say she will be a very little gal, which we dont mind at all... anyhow im sure your doing everything fine, each baby is different in there wants and needs... take care.

DS is 8 months and takes around 23-24 oz of formula + meals solid . It is usually the Gerber stage 2 bottle which amounts to 8oz. Every child is different. DS is 10th percentile for wt and 75th for ht. HE is a perfectly healthy, active and normal baby. However, his eating concerns me:confused:

Yep, my DS prefers the bottle over his solids as well. He is 8 months and will eat really well on some days but not so well on others. It is like he is just bored with his food.

Anyone having problems with stage 3 foods? DS is just not interesed in them. It is hard for me to find proteins he likes. I don't think he likes the small chunks of rice, patsa, veggies in the stage 3 jars. Yet, he will take bites of banana, bread, puffs, watermelon, pancakes, etc. I just think he might be a kid that skips the stage 3 baby foods and goes straight to table foods. I guess that is fine with me.
