I am a 30 yo male and I have just been diagnosed with mitral valve prolapse and am very worried. I went to the heart doc because I had been having pvc's and they did some test and found that I had MVP. Anyone with this condition please let me know what to expect. Is this going to shorten my life span? Thanks so much in advance.

Hi, had the same at age 66. Woke up in a cold sweat and a floating feeling. 72 hours later, valve was repaired with what is very basically an elastic ring against which the leafets work. I had no specific previous symptoms other than a slight murmer for 25 or so years.
Sure it wasn't a great time but it is totally amazing what can be fixed and so easily. We live in a good time.
Don't worry about your lifespan. Start looking into your options.
They are basically, do nothing at this time, valve replacement (either pig valve or mechanical) or 'the ring'.
Hopefully, yourself like myself, will prove to have no disease of the heart/arteries. 'Just' a mechanical failure coming to the fore.
Surgery recovery? Give yourself a big six months to really feel normal. But about six to eight weeks will have you dancing :-)
Find yourself an excellent cardiologist. Talk to everyone you know if necessary. You'll be surprised how many folks have been in the same boat and will know docs.

It is unusual for MVP alone to ever lead to surgery. I was dx at 19. I am 44 now. It is not something I have ever paid a lot of attention too because I guess to me its normal. I have some PVCs and take anti-biotics before dental work. Thats pretty much the extent of it. I have known people who claim it causes fatigue.....either I dont have that or I have been tired all my life. Relax.....if you had to have something wrong with your heart MVP is the least of the evils. Do research on it.....there are some severe cases that cause people problems, but you would be shocked at the amount of people who have MVP without any other problems with the heart! The percentage of people who have it is quite high as well. I wouldnt stress over MVP! People live with it every day!!!
