View Full Version : Horrible odor...

I've had this problem for the last two years, and I post every few months in hopes that someone out there will catch this and give me some clue on what's going on. I can't be the only one with this problem.

Anyhow, I get the most horrible foul odor emanating from my mouth and from multiple visits to ENTs and dentists, they have determined the smell is not from my sinuses and mouth.

Recently, I have noticed that the smell comes out when I'm really hungry OR after eating/drinking. I do not get this odor when I burp. It just wafts up whenever I talk or occassionally when I shift positions or open my mouth. I also noticed that it happens when I fly. Again the odor is DEADLY.

The ENTs think it's acid reflux and for about a 6 month period, I did all the things associated with reflux, medications, sleeping arrangements, etc. Not much changed. I had an endoscopy, manometry and Ph monitoring tests. The results were "normal".

I have researched relaxed LES muscle. I'm beginning to think that my LES just opens up way more often than normal and that's why I get this horrible odor...I think? Depressingly, if this is the case, the only remedy seems to be surgery.

One doctor also suggested delayed stomach emptying. I have also heard about bile reflux being a culprit when it comes to odor.

Anyhow, anyone out there with similar woeful tale or knows what's going on, please help! After two years of this odor, it's really affected my self-esteem and it's sucked out my social life. I get really stressed and it seems to make it even worse.

Okay, no one...I'll bring this up later in the year and see if I catch someone down the road...

Have you been tested for gastroparesis (the delayed stomach emptying you mentioned)? My first thought would be the food sitting in your stomach so long causing the odor possibly? Sorry I wasn't much help. I hope someone else has some ideas for you!

Hello. I don't know if you still read this but I once had a similar problem.

I looked on the internet and read a lot of different things that just made me more confused.

The solution: GATORADE, GATORADE, GATORADE.

Maybe it was a potassium deficiency but it does the trick.

Hopefully this will help out some desperate person out there. And avoid cleanses at all costs. That's what screwed up my system in the first place. Do NOT cleanse.
