I've had a bruise on my leg that's been there for 11 days now, and shows no signs of going away. I don't even know how I got it in the first place (which is pretty common, because I'm clumsy and walk into stuff all the time... but this bruise is really big, and hurt a lot, so I should at least remember hitting my leg hard enough to get it).
For the first few days, it was really sore, and there was a bump under the skin. It was about three different colors- different shades of blue, purple, and red. After a few days, some green color was added to the mix. It doesn't hurt anymore now, but it's not fading. It's changed shapes, but it's still really bright colors, is big in size, and there's now yellowing or browning like usually happens when bruises start to go away. I don't ever remember having a bruise for this long, especially not one I don't even remember how I got... Anyone know why a bruise would last this long without fading?
Thanks!

i guess it wouldn't hurt to just ask your doc about it and maybe have your liver labs checked.from what you have described with the color changes,it does appear to be following the normal healing course,it is just a bit longer than usual in most cases.if it was a big 'bleed' under the skin,it would also take a bit longer to heal.the body has to break down and absorb the old red blood cells in order for any bruise to actually 'go away'.the part where you stated that you didn't feel what actually caused it kind of worries me only becasue that sounds like one heck of a bruise to have without actually ever 'feeling' it when it occured,ya know?are you currently taking any sort of blood thinners even aspirin?i would just bring this up to your doc soon.this could be perfectly normal or something could be the underlying problem that needs to be found out.better safe than sorry you know?good luck and please let me know what you find out if anything. Thanks for your reply.
I noticed that over the past couple of days, it has faded a little more, and finally started to yellow a little bit, but it's still pretty brightly colored.
I do have another bruise on my opposite leg that is only a faded blue color, and hasn't been there that long. If there was a problem, like you mentioned having my liver labs checked, I would be bruising badly all over, right?
Thanks again!

actually,no.when my son was actually in liver failure,we just didn't have a flippin clue til about one month later,he had one really ugly bruise on his stomach that was rather large, and it did come from a hit he got while playing football two days before.like i said,we didn't have a clue or he sure as hell wouldn't have been playing football.it,in most cases, would just be a hit or a bump somewhere that would cause the tiny vessels under the skin to break, just like with any other bruise.it isn't usually a "spontaneous" type of thing, you know what i mean?i think with some actual blood disorders like leukemia, that is kind of what you would see?the all over type bruising?but not with alot of other issues that could cause bruising.you should just get your labs checked just to make sure everything is within range.they will also be checking your clotting times too.it is just a simple blood draw but it can really show alot of just how systems are functioning in our bodies.please keep me posted.
