When is blood and mucus in stool a cause for great concern? I noticed a very small amount today and I was worried. Last night I also had bloating, sort of just a dull pain and nausea, heartburn too. I've been taking Imodium AD for about one week everyday - could that be the cause? I had been taking that because every time I start my period - my stomach turns in knots. Thanks for any help. Any help will help ease my mind. I'm a 22 year old female if that helps.

THanks!

Just noticed you had three consecutive posts. I only read the last and responded so here's the addendum I guess.

Based on what I have read and been told, blood in stool is almost always a cause for concern and should garner attention. I suggest seeing your doctor and discussing the use of Immodium for extended periods of time. You may be inadvertantly damaging your stomach or intestinal lining.

See a doc - go over your diet in detail as well as medications and frequency of use (over the counter too). It's a good start. In the meantime, I would recommend stopping the Immodium unless directed by a doctor and rest your GI tract by avoiding harsh foods (acidic, fatty, spicy, alcohol).
