I have posted here before with my story and symptoms. Last Saturday I passed out while in the shower so I had my fiance take me to the ER. I expected them to run an ECG, bloodwork, chest x-ray and send me on my merry way, but they ended up admitting me to run tests. They don't run any non-emergency tests on Sundays so I got to hang in the hospital all day....lucky me!

On Monday morning they had me stand up to take my BP, while I am standing there I start to feel dizzy but I know that the nurse is almost finished taking my BP so I wait it out, but she was unable to get a reading. I sat down immediately and then passed out for about 30 seconds they said. The nurses came running in to my room (I was hooked to a monitor) and said that my heart rate dropped to 36 BPM (I usually range between 75-90 BPM) and they all kept talking about a 3 second pause (I have no idea what this means....no one would give me a definitive answer).

Anyways they end up doing an ultrasound of my carotids (negative), thallium stress test (negative), EEG (negative) and a tilt table test (negative...but everyone thought it would turn out positive). So after all these tests they give a drug called Midodrine and told me that I MOST LIKELY suffer from a vasovagul reflux (sp?) and to take these pills. The pills aren't helping the dizziness it is just making my heart race.

Has anyone ever heard of this vasavagul reflux? Is it really as benign as the doctors make it sound. I don't understand how I am diagnosed with this is every test came back fine. Could it be something else? I have had MRI of the brain and all the major tests on my heart (except for angiogram) and they all turn up NOTHING!!! I have been dealing with dizziness and chest pains for about a year now and it is getting to the point that I am unable to work or function.

Few things about me: 29 year old female, non-smoker, non-drinker, family history of strokes (father had 2), HBP, and diabetes. All bloodwork checks out fine...no major autoimmune diseases (i.e. lupus, MS, etc) and my BP runs lower (100/60, sometimes even lower than that).

I am just at a loss right now. No one can seem to find out what is wrong with me. If anyone has any ideas please respond. Check my previous posts if you want to the whole story.

well a couple of thoughts for you.. have you had your thyroid and adrenals tested? I might recommend you see a endocrinologist. There is also some good posting in the addisons disease forum in here (and no im not saying you have this). Your adrenal glands are closely related to heart rate and often times blood pressure. Midodrine is just simply to increase your blood pressure so when you go from sitting to standing you dont have the normal drop in blood pressure like some people get. But is does sound like you have some form of vasovagal syndrome because your heart rate and blood pressure drop which correlates with your vagus nerve. If you can find a good endocrinologist they have a vast knowledge bank about things to do to help regulate heart rate and blood pressure. You can also research autonomic dysfunction on the net, you will get a lot of results with that and might find something helpfull. I have a form of autonomic dysfunction, and as opposed to putting me on midodrine, which i heard the side affects are pretty bad, they have me eat a diet high in salt and take extra salt tabs each day. This is to raise your blood pressure some by adding to your fluid volume. Hope that helps some.
