I recently had a colonoscopy and ERG done and my GI doc said that my intestines are black! And he has no idea why! Has anyone ever heard of this??? I have been having severe reactions to eating, which is why I had the tests done. He also found some 7mm worm like things attached all over in the intestines, which he also has no idea what are! Why do we even have doctors?! Can anyone tell me what either of these things are?

I have never heard of anything like this.

I do hope you will make an appointment with a different gastro doctor and find out what the heck is going on in your body.

The parasites need to be identified and treated.

The best of luck in finding a doctor who will answer your questions.

I got a referral for a 2nd opinion GI doctor a few days ago. They will call me next week to let me know who to see and where to go.

Also, he didn't say they were parisites; he didn't say they were anything. He said they were simply "there".

. . . okaaaaaay . . . so now what? "Nice information. I'll be on my way"? ***?!

Black intestines refers to the color of the inner lining of the intestines. Normally it should be a pink color. Black intestines is usually the result of staining caused by the use of laxatives. Have you used laxatives?

I'm not sure . . . I have been using an herbal supplement every day for about a year now. It relieves my constipation so I guess you would call it a "laxative"? If I don't take it, I will not have a bowel movemnet for up to 6 months! And end up in the Emergency Room due to SEVERE pain.

Do you think this is the cause of the black intestines? Why do they turn black? Should I quit using the herbal supplements?

I unserstand my doctor should be able to answer these questions for me . . . but if he did, then I wouldn't be on here . . . :dizzy:

Yes, that's the cause. The medical name for black intestines is melanosis coli.

Doctors can't know everything. There are over 30,000 diseases and disorders.

I think you need to talk with your doctor about whether to stop using the herbal supplement.

So, is the black intestines anything to worry about?

. . .

What about the worm thingys?

It should worry you in the sense that you need to find a solution to the constipation so that you can stop using the herbal supplement. The herbal supplement or any laxative should only be used temporarily for a short period of time. So far the black color is only a stain.

If your doctor doesn't know what the worm thingys are then what is he going to do about it? Is he going to ask a specialist or something like that?

No. He just told me to "go home". Because he has no idea what they are.

Actually, he didn't even mention them to me. The only reason I know he knows they're present in my intestines is because I "illegally" had the results faxed over to my PCP and he was kind enough to show them to me. I really wasn't even supposed to see the report.

Oh, and I did try to find a solution to the constipation . . . with no luck. I saw a GI for about 5 years before I finally found something (on my own) that helped with the consipation/pain from it. The GI still doesn't know what causes the severe constipation.

Sometimes docs don't tell patients everything -IF they know it's nothing to worry about. If he thought it should be checked out - he would have sent you to a specialist . . . doctors take an oath in medical school to do everything they can to help a patient. Have you ever been diagnosed with anxiety? Anxiety can also cause some of the symptoms you listed.

Anxiety has been mentioned, but it doesn't make sense because the symptoms increase when I eat and are definitely corralated with eating; not sure how yet though. I've tried anxiety medications and they only seem to make me more dizzy.

My head constantly feels like it is full of poison; like I swallowed 10 gallons of gasoline or something. To put any sort of "calming" medication on top of that; let's just say . . . I can look forward to the ER.

Yes, I do presume that the worst may happen. But that's only because I've been sick for so long and let down so many times. I just don't understand how a 22 year old, young, female could possibly have a disease that no doctor has ever heard of.

It sounds like I work for Miralax I've been pushing it so much, but it has been a godsend for me. I would be in so much pain without it. My doctor said I can even use it for an extended period of time if I want. I've been on for 3 weeks now and I'm fine.

No more suppositories or Magnesium Citrate(?) drinks again. Even stool softeners are our the door.

Miralax is over the counter now and places like Target and Walmart have a big bottle for like $10. It doesn't even taste bad and you can mix it with any drink.

Hi, debiltatingdiz.. hope you are feeling alright, I looked at some of your other posts and I wonder if the Dr. have some trouble with you being about 100lbs (I think you said that) and being a long term laxative user who is afraid when you eat that your stomach gets 6 inches protruding.
They don't feel what you go through so I hope you have found supportive people who you can talk to.

I have a lot of food sensitivities too and I quit smoking and gained 10 lbs this year. Most people don't get it that body changes and symptoms an really affect your life.
good luck:)

Hey again. Thanks for "researching me". :) That actually means a lot that some one would take the time to take a look at my posts. :)

Yeah, the doctors actually just scheduled a CAT Scan because of my weight loss. They think I'm trying to lose weight or something. I'll get the CAT Scan anyway, just to humor them (my insurance pays for it anyway). ;)

But, I was actaully a healthy weight (130 lbs) 8 months ago before all these dizzy symptoms hit me. I just dropped off all that weight when I went on a 22 day juice fast. I was attempting yet ANOTHER remedy to rid my body of all toxins. I actually felt a whole lot better during the juice fast . . . but I couldn't do it forever. And as soon as I started eating again . . . dizzy and bed ridden once again.

Hi Diz! Can you gradually decrease the herbal supplement and introduce natural laxatives such as seedless grapes or prune juice? I, too, have digestive problems, and take generic fiber, but what I do is alternate between the fiber and fruit or prune juice. Do everything slowly and gently on yourself. Have you had a good pelvic exam recently with a good gynecologist also? I would get rid of that gastro guy you saw--what a dope!! Some people have book smarts, but are life stupid. I really hope your innards feel better soon. Take care--Hopeto--

Hey. I wouldn't know how much prune juice to drink? How much should you have? After a meal? . . . But it would have to be something I'd have to try in the near future because right now I'm on a high protein/no sugar diet (and no sugar means no fruit). I saw a naturopath and he thinks I have a severe candida overgrowth in my intestines. So, now I'm on more supplements and eating about 60-80 grams of protein a day!
