View Full Version : Going in for Echo

Just a quick couple of questions for those of you that are more experienced than I. I had my annual checkup with my cardiologist last week and other than having to have 2 EKG's due to a bad lead placement on the first one, which lead the doctor to think I had a heart attack since my last EKG but was normal on the 2nd EKG, everything is still fine. She is having me repeat an echo from 14 months ago this week, just as a matter of routine. My last echo revealed minor diastolic disfunction, a slightly enlarged right atrium and an EF of 60%, the echo was considered normal with everything within a normal varient.

I had it done at that time because I was starting an exercise program for the first time in many years and I needed the all clear. In the past 14 months I have lost 60 pounds with just exercise and diet changes. I'm taking it slow loosing about 4 or 5 pounds per month. I'm on the treadmill 45 minutes a day, have no issues getting to 85% of my target heart rate and have no symptoms of CAD. Blood pressure is down, cholesterol is good, never smoked and no family history. I am a 49 year old male and still need to loose 40 pounds more.

My question, is it possible that these changes in my life may result in a better echo by reversing the diastolic disfunction and slight enlargement of the right atrium and improve my EF%?

Thanks,

Tony
