I don't know if this is a good board to put this in, but I'm new here and I have a situation that I need to ask.

Recently I've noticed this problem and I don't really know how long I've had it...but when I position my head a certian way...most of the time when it's bowed -- there is a clicking a clicking feeling/noise around the Adams apple.

Does anyone out there have any idea what that could be or is it something that you've gone through and you KNOW what it is.

Thanks,

Hmmm...

I never thought about that! I guess my "Pulse" could creat an "Actual Click"?? My mind is getting the better of me (Having OCD) that something major is out of place or broke or something is majorly wrong and that I'm going to "choke to death."

Thanks!

Is this clicking when you swallow? If so, I just recently went to an ENT about this problem, and was told that it was my hyoid bone rubbing against either cartilage or tendons. I was told it is a common complaint among patients and that it could be caused by swallowing a large piece of food, thus stretching the cartilage there, or by someone hitting it. I was told it would go away "eventually", but having read up a lot about it on the internet, I'm seeing people complaining about it for years, so I'm not all that hopeful right now. :(

Hi I've had that. It will happen if I'm lying down on the couch or sitting back in the lounger, watching TV. I think it's just the positioning of you neck.

The next time it happens, take note at how you are holding your head.

Like the other poster stated, the cartilage in the neck/swallowing area is being stretched or pulled slightly. By repositioning you head, it should go away.:)

I have had this since Jan 5th. It is on the right side very annoying! Had fiberoptic sope by ENT-nothing and just had an MRI-waiting for results... Did your symptoms go away? This is so weird. It is very scary.

Thanks,

Jill

20 years ago during a ski trip I felt a "snap" in my throat. I didn't think much of it until that evening why I woke up with a mouth full of blood. I spit out the blood in my mouth went back to bed. The following morning the clicking or more accurately the "crunching" sensation in my throat began. I thought it was related to the "snap" I had felt the day before and expected it to go away by itself. It didn't go away so I had it checked out. I had all kind of tests(ex. barium swallow, CAT Scan, etc.) but nothing ever showed up. Many of the doctors I saw suggested that it was phsycosomatic. Apparantly that's what doctors say when they haven't got a freakin clue. After several years of unsuccessfully trying to find diagnosis I gave up. To this day I still have the "crunching" feeling in my throat. It hasn't gotten any better or worse. I absolutely hate this feeling but I have come to the realization that I may NEVER get rid of it. It is slightly comforting to know I'm not the only one with this problem.
