L5/S1...me again 6 weeks post surgery!

Is it normal...............

1. To feel sickly, tired, stiff and painful in the a.m.?
2. To still be on 30 mg of Lortab per day at 6 weeks?
3. To be able to actually touch my hips and feel pain?

Once again, I am doing really well.....just need some questions answered. You guys are great and it truly helps to have you just a click away.:)

Yes it is all normal. In fact you may begin feeling an increase in pain around the 5th and 6th week.

YES, YES and Yes. Did they use a piece of the bone from your hip for the fusion? They did for my cervical spine and It was painful to the touch for 2 years. It slowly gets a better.

Elle,

Yes, it is very normal to feeling like you are at six weeks. I remember I was so wiped out and sore at 6 weeks. The good news is that is will get better!! Just keep resting and getting up and moving, and don't forget to keep getting pampered!! Hope you start feeling easier soon.

Yes, yes and yes!
Honey, you are ONLY 6 weeks after - this is so "normal" to feel what you feel, don't get discouraged. I remember every week i was so sure i will be strong enough next week to go back to work. And than every month, and more month... Everybody heals differently, seems are you doing very well... Just be more patient, i know how hard this is.
Best of luck on your recovery, give your body time...

YES!!! very normal indeed. You may even feel worse at times. Remember you are in the beginning throws of your body healing itself, bone growing, tissues regenerating, nerves healing, etc.., pain and discomfort is to be expected.

By week 12, you will notice a huge leap in healing from where you are right now.

Hi Elle,
I too had spinal fusion at l5/s1 8 weeks post op and also had bone taken from the back of my hip and it does hurt to touch!!! Are you walking? My doctor placed copis bone filler in my hip and supposedly it would prevent my hip from hurting and help with the healing. Round 1 and I are just a few weeks ahead of you!!! so let's get through this together!!!!! I hope your feeling better today. Keep us posted!!!

I'm all for "getting through this together". Thanks so much for your concern. I guess I am just expecting too much too soon. I am not one to lie around and stay still.

Yes, I am walking for 30 minutes a day but only after taking 10 mg of Lortab. Are you and Round 1 taking anything for pain? At my 3 week post op my doc was already talking about taking me off my pain meds. I'M NOT READY BY ANY MEANS!!!!!!!!!!!
