Hi everyone. I am 29 years old and my doctor said I have fibrocystic breast tissue.

My breasts are sore especially when touched. And there is a swollen, very painful under the skin lump under my armpit. Went back to the doc yesterday and he said it is an infected lymph node.

I feel sore all over. It almost feels like the other armpit node is sore too. I am scared it is a cancer sign but the doctor is very dismissive. I don't want to let soemthing serious go untreated. It's like my whole torso is sore with the most painful area being the left armpit/breast.

Doc gave me Zithromax and sent me home. He didn't seem to think any further investigation was necessary. I am still in great discomfort and don't know what to do. I am scared it could be cancer. Breast cancer, lung cancer, lymphoma, my mind is worrying about all these different possibilities.

Hi Angie,
Hopefully it is nothing, but please get a second opinion. Ask for a mamogram or a ultrasound. I would demand it, it is your body. You really have to take charge of your own body. It is nice when a doctor says dont worry about it but there is always that doubt. And you need a piece of mind. Call him back or someone else.
Take Care,
JoJo

Fibrocystic disease can scare you. Your breasts are lumpy and hurt etc...the only piece of advice for you would be if it bothers you, seek second opinion. I feel you can never be too vigilant about breast issues. Docs can be wrong because of many issues, and second opinions should be expected by any doc as a sign of taking care of oneself. If ANY doc seems bothered by you getting a second opinion, then you got a bad doc!! I worked at a cancer center and saw this all the time. Take care of YOU!
