Hi all. I was diagnosed with gastritis yesterday. They did not ct scans or ultrasounds. So I just wonder how they know it's that. They did blood work on my digestive organs and it all looked fine.

I just have persistent pain below and in the middle of my rib cage. It feels full like someone blew up a balloon and put it in that spot. Does anyone know or have had the symptoms of Gastritis? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

God bless!

They are probably going by your symptoms. I have chronic gastritis and my symptoms are nausea, fullness after only a couple of bites of food, pain/full feeling under left rib cage, burning on an empty stomach and sometimes diarrhea. You should have an endoscopy (a camera that looks into your esophagus/stomach) done to see if it is gastritis or something else.

Thanks, Diamond. Can this also cause bloody stools? Can you have it one time and it goes away?

Thanks so much!

I don't think bloody stools is a symptom of gastritis. And it is possible for someone to have gastritis and it go away, but usually it takes an acid reducing medication or PPI (ex. aciphex, protonix, Zantac) to get rid of it. Sometimes the reason someone has gastritis is because of a bacteria called H. Pylori, and until you get rid of the bacteria, the gastritis will more than likely linger. H. Pylori can be tested by a breath test or a biopsy when you have an endoscopy.

Thanks Diamond. They tested me for the H. (big long word) =) the night before. They found nothing. But my symptoms do closely match those of gastritis. THey gave me reglan and protonix last night. It didn't help any until this morning. My pain is 10 times better! So I'm assuming it had something to do with stomach issues. Thanks again! You are so helpful. God bless you!

yes, it sounds like gastritis to me.
I had very similar symptom as yours, did a endoscopy and find some diffuse gastritis. Took PPI for 2 weeks, feel a bit better now, but symptom sometimes come back when i accidentally ate too much. The whole upper abdominal will feel soooo congested. So now I always try to control to eat 80% full....and it works fine.

Thanks David. This is very helpful. I'm going to try eating 80 percent full too. That's great idea! Thanks! God bless!

Yes, I get the same thing...I can not "fill" myself or I will be nauseous and have stomach pain the rest of the night. I feel alot better, but I still do get the occasional "flare-up" when I eat anything greasy, spicy or fatty and hard to digest. Mine is chronic so I will probably have it for a while, but the PPI's help.
