After several years of back pain, I just got these results from an MRI- "broad based disc bulge L5-S1 with bilateral facet hypertrophy L4-5 broad based disc bulge L3-4 broad based disc bulge and borderline spinal stenosis and facet hypertrophy L2-3 disc desiccation and a broad based disc bulge with bilateral facet hypertrophy" Then I had a discogram and got positive for L4 L5 and L5 S1. I am now waiting for my followup app. with neurosurgeon. I would like to hear from anyone who could tell me anything about my condition. I am a 32 yr. old husband and father in constant pain

Sorry to hear about your condition. I know how you feel. When I first started seeing a doctor for back pain I knew little about different back problems. As time progressed I kept hoping it was a simple problem but like you it is the most complex and hardest to cure. If it is any consolation, many old people have horrible looking backs on MRIs but end up with little or no pain.
Learn and read all you can. You are probably a candidate for fusion surgery in todays medical climate. Back surgery is improving all the time. As time goes by better surgeries and treatments are available. Right now Germany seems to be on the cutting edge for backs. There are other things to consider like employer relations, insurance, and the support of your family before surgery.
I'll say a prayer for you.
