Most mouth odor originates from the tongue. Try brushing twice a day, flossing once, and each time you brush your teeth, also brush your tongue. The tongue should be brushed using only water, not toothpaste. You can get tongue scrapers to help get that white coating off if you want, but your toothbrush can probably do the job just fine. The white coating is a good indicator that the problem is coming from your tongue. Rinse well with water after cleaning your tongue. If the problem persists, you might want to consult with a dentist.
Hope this helps,

I agree with the above poster but also want to add some other suggestions.
Use mouthwash before or after brushing.
Brush teeth and tongue twice a day; morning and night
You can try whitening products if you're concerned with the color of your teeth.
Also, if you drink coffee, it can stain your teeth. Try drinking coffee with a straw from now on!
Having tick-tacks or gum handy is always good to help fight bad breath if you can't get to a toothbrush and tooth paste!

I would add that you should be sure that your mouthwash is alcohol free.
Also, if you could brush after meals (I know sometimes not convenient) that would be best.
