Doc just put me on 10mg Zocor a day. I am 42yr old, 183lbs, in decent shape, cholesterol is 252. Anything I need to know about this?

Not much other than it is wiser to buy it as simvastatin...the new generic, it's cheaper.

Get a blood test in 30 days to check your liver function and look out for achey thigh and buttock muscles. Ten milligrams is a VERY low dose so it would be very unlikely to causse you any problems.

The last time I had mine checked it was 253... I have done the statin drug thing and all the side effect in order to get mine down.. On Statins, mine was 167 and I was barely able to get put of bed (but my doc was happy). Off of them I am functional and pain free again and able to live my life now.

I suggest to you to try alternitive methods to get it down if you think that 252 is really a high number. Try everything possiable to get it down without statins..

If you do decide to take them, Reseach statins on the internet and search for other forums to see what side effects are so that if it happens to you, you will know what it is.

I would suggest that you be very aware of any changes while taking Zocor. Some people experience the side effects listed on the pharmacy information and others experience side effects unique to themselves. I was on it for 3 months. I and friends noticed that I was having trouble processing my thoughts. Not a side effect listed. I'm now on Zetia and no longer have a foggy brain.

Thank you all for your input. From what I have read, including your responses, I should get off of this and try something else. Sounds like it does more harm than good. Thanks again.

Sounds like it does more harm than good.

In fact, that is completely untrue...simvastatin can prevent heart attacks, and that is a GREAT good. In a country where heart disease is the largest killer, perhaps it is the greatEST good.
